"Death in the ass of the Universe"... In fact, this is a improvisated title.

About This File

A compilation of 27 levels (the three series from the original Doom), that I made between 1994 and 2000. But they weren't conceived as a complete and coherent episode. There isn't storyline or something similar, and most of these maps were constructed without any previous planning.
In any case, they're grouped in three series, in the same way that the original episodes from Doom. The usual; my first episode has a futurist ambientation, the second introduces some bloody details, and the third takes us directly to the hell...
At this time, I must recognize that these levels aren't going to impress anybody; they're very old, and look like this... But they haven't major bugs, and I think that the maps are quite playable. Some of them are aesthetic and have a exciting gameplay -E3M6, E1M7, E2M6-; and, well, there are other less enjoyable -E2M2, E1M9-, or really bad -E3M7-.
Finally, there's some maps based on real places... The first part of E2M1 is, for example, my old institute -long time ago...-; in the half of E3M7 appear some rooms of the bar of the village where I live; the first half of E2M7 shows part of a gym where I used to go... And other details like these.

it's one of those classic 90's wads you can probably just sift through, but it's not that good. plenty of inescapable pits, some awful level progression, and some actually trollish crusher placement lie within this one.

It's a nice wad overall, nice map design, textures and monster placement, enjoyed playing on D-Touch (GZDoom1.8) with Dude4th weapon mod.  My only complain would be the secrets, they have very few to no clues about their position.  There was a problem on E3M5 on the secrets around the squared starting room with stairs, the wall closes and let me stuck inside, had to use idclip to get out from those secret rooms.

A definite blast from the past. The further you play, the better the maps become. E1 is plain and boring and didn't age very well. It's worse than the IWAD's E1 in terms of quality. E2 and E3 stand in contrast, though, and are very, very nice. Be warned however that this WAD doesn't stray from the usual Doom 1 tedium and you might wish for more rockets and more BFG ammo. The levels look quite good with attention to detail, although they are built using mostly flat architecture that consists of corridors and convex rooms. There aren't any technical issues and all textures are well aligned. The only design failure lies in inescapable death pits. I rate this with 3 stars because the WAD in its entirety is really something that you'd play just out of curiosity to see how the WADs of the 20th century looked like, but still there are levels here that stand strong even today.

-Wong

This levels set is a bit of a grab bag, with some maps that are not all that great, but others that are lots of fun. There is a definate oldschool feel to all of them, so if that doesn't appeal to you, you probably will not want this. Still, there are many fun maps in this set. I did have to use noclip to complete one level in the E1 section, I'm not sure if the level actually has a bug or if I'm just missing something. Aside from that, no fatal errors, although some maps aren't very pretty.

Generally classic style wad that doesn't come close to meeting the achievement of something like NMD but it would have probably been a much bigger impact if it was from the mid 90s. It still has some fun maps in it, and since it's Doom I we don't have to deal with Eye's dreaded tendency to abuse the SS Nazis by treating them as if they are a regular monster. Can't make the top cut of classic Doom wads but I don't hesitate to recommend this if you're bored, or have exhausted the others. 3.5/5

Visually, this has average to mediocre architecture without looking like complete crap. Gameplay is pretty good and gives a strong 90s map vibe. Good to burn some time with if looking for classic style maps.

Even thought it's nothing extraordinary, I enjoyed playing through most of this one-man megawad. I say almost because E1M9 is buggy (a SEGs corruption issue), and E3M7 is kind of annoying (maybe the author exaggerates by calling it "garbage", though). A couple other levels also seemed a bit rough at the start, which might make them better as standalone levels that as part of an episode. [3/5] ~Chain Mail (02/2008)

first two episodes play like classic Doom with some cool ideas, ammo everywhere, no overdetailing etc. last episode is a giant wall of meat! barons everywhere, gets challenging at times with sniping shotgun dudes and far less generous with the ammo and supercharges. enjoyed it a lot.

Really good puzzle map in a big dark metal/stone building. It catches the atmosphere of Bob Evans' Eternal Doom stuff, and I think there are even some homages to some other Eternal Doom maps as well (for example, the big two-layered outdoor area looks a bit like the "amusement park" in MAP26).   In my experience the puzzles were a bit easier than in "Silures" or "Excalibur", but it's possible that having played a lot of puzzle map stuff since I played Eternal Doom, having played through the whole canon of Bob Evans and Jim Flynn, and liking to search for Doom secrets in every map has made me recognize certain tropes better. The puzzles I liked most were (the spoilers only give minor hints):
Gameplay is good too, at the start ammo is scarce so the chainsaw and berserk are your friend, and midtiers say hello from the start on, but hitscanners are the biggest threat. Rockets should be saved for archviles until you find the first larger cache.   9,5/10

Fun, challenging set of maps that looks much better than you might expect for the time it was made. These maps will still slap you around a bit on HMP if you're not staying sharp. The author is fond of Chaingunner ambushes which keep you on your toes. I didn't find the SSG until around MAP05, which was cool, I like when its not given out too early. Pistol-starting the last two maps is pretty tough, but doable.   The map designs do a really good job of letting the player see crucial areas from different angles through progression and the layouts are really tidy overall, and feel a bit more modern than a lot of other 94/95 maps I've played. There are some really nice large-scale vistas (like the start of MAP06), nice uses of verticality and a good mixture of tight and more open combat.   Recommended!

Spectacular visuals and engaging combat make this an absolute must play. There's a puzzle with a "Shoot the thing" answer that kind of comes out of left field and can be an easy place to get stuck if you're not on your toes, but that hardly stops the map from being a thrilling masterpiece.

E3M9's refrain of back-tracking to a church for keys is a little tedious, and there are a few moments where things can become a frustrating key/switch hunt as you figure out what to do next, but aside from that, this an intense and rewarding adventure with beautiful lighting and architecture.
