About This File

Your trapped on that infernal moon base as usual. You've gotten to the point where you take out most everything that comes at you without blinking. You've become careless. You round a corner and meet a hail of fire and gunshot, and you're dead. You wake in a dark hole, awaiting the time when the denizens of hell will come and take you away for a permanent more-than-luke-warm bath of fire. BUT HEY! Just because you're dead doesn't mean that you can't still kick butt! After all, going to hell for real didn't take away your shotgun (and they say you can't take it with you). You scrounge your way out of the dark hole and see a fortress in the distance. If you can reach it, then you can reclaim your lost soul from it's round blue container and free yourself from Purgatory.

This wad was created by a guy who would later work in the game industry. E2M1 is a quick, dull opener but E2M2 is a large map with 460+ monsters to blast through. The texturing is ugly, the detail is low, and there's an overabundance of ammo, but the map is really fun anyway. 4/5

Very tight game play here for levels from 1994. Level 2 offers various interesting traps and fights and the relatively low amount of cover can wear you down. The appearance of the level is also pretty cool, if rough, with that Gigerish texture giving the fortress an unusual "alien" appearance, and there's a good combination of relative darkness and torture-like textures inside. A minor issue is that you can get stuck in those rooms from where barrels come out in map02. [4/5] ~Chain Mail (03/2011)

The first level in this set is a short, fast-paced 'starter' level, so to say, with an interesting end. Good use of lighting and textures. The second level utilizes every element of the Doom game to it's fullest extent. Superb lighting and textures with a great balance of ammo, health, and monsters. These are extremely well-made levels that are definately worth downloading.

Umm these levels look like something that came straight out of the 94' archives, except the detail isn't even on par with that era. I will however say the gameplay is definately above average and will keep you moving..

This is dated September 1994. For something that's thirteen years old it's very impressive; well-designed (although crude), with loads of monsters, far more than most user-made wads of the period. E2M1 is a trivial nothing that fits the plot and makes you start E2M2 with a shotgun. E2M2 is huge and surprisingly tough. The design work is decent - good lighting, poor textures - but with a bit of polish it would have been a stand-out in Thy Flesh Revealed.

Fun to play. Yeah, I did it on UV; 100/96/100 40:07. Go me! (ok, had some hard times, so don't forget to save from time to time)

I clearly remember playing this wad from a CD compilation years ago. Good maps; they feel sort of Episode 4 styled (though they by all means predate E4.) The design is right for the map size and play is fun (well-balanced.)

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this is a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
