Great level design and fluidity. Recommended for anyone looking for a challenge and lots of chaos. For extra fun/difficulty, play with Project Brutality or Brutal Doom. :)

Decade is a Cacoward winner from 2004. It is a single player map made by Russell Pearson and is intended to be a tribute to 10 years of Doom and Doom2. It accomplishes this quite well with it's old school style design while looking more polished than the originals. I played on HMP and the combat was plenty challenging, with lots of well placed ambushes and some dehacked monsters, like the supercharged mancubus and revenant. Tougher than their vanilla counterparts and employing different missile mechanics, I was caught off guard, in a good way, as they are not over-used. Balance of supplies and ammo is tight but not frustratingly so, forcing you to push forward to get to the items you need. I was never lost even while the map was looping around, dropping you into pits and returning back to previous areas. It felt non-linear with a clear path to follow. Through out the level you will encounter numerous rooms/areas that pay homage to the original games. These are incorporated well within the map and give you a nice nostalgic feeling when playing. My only real gripe, and its a small one, is that jumping is required...and that's' fine. But it's only needed for jumping on boxes to get items/ammo for the most part. It seemed unnecessary. It took me about an hour to beat it and at the end...I wished it was longer. Great map.

nice ZDoom map, good design and mapping skills, but too easy even on UV, i beat it without saves. Didn't liked the place where rocket crate has exploded, only luck saved me from dying there.

I love how the player is punished for backtracking and playing defensively This WAD really forces you to play DooM the way it was supposed to be played

a cool map but weird scripting, you go from place to place, touching sectors just to go to the next location, it's pretty strange overall. but the cool thing to see is the combat is quite carnage-filled, and offers some homages to classic areas like the E1M1 starting room, the MAP10 area with the numerous zombies, the E2M1 beginning stuff, and the MAP01 platform room, plus a Dead Simple arena of sorts. there's also one really cool secret where shooting a barrel blows up a boatload of explosive crates. it seems a little too script-heavy at times, but the feel is still servicable enough that this is a decent one-level wad to play through.

Lots of work. Architecture is ok and on a few points quite good, but overall map layout is only slightly better than average. The rocket bunker detail is great :-). Sadly the gameplay is another excellent example of the widely spread 'more monsters + popups make better gameplay' misconception, which makes UV plain yawning. Overall small 4* mostly for the effort, and in no way 5* legendary. BTW @ ^havoc2000: try unloved, roch & ed4_rfo1, and get really overwhelmed.

Jesus Christ is this overwhelming 0_o There are so many damn enemies, I found myself needing a break! It's not unfair though, however it is quite the challenge! Aesthetically, it is very impressive and large, and the architecture is complicated but not in a way that it is hard to look at. Really, it is no wonder this won a Cacoward. This is a must play for all Doom fans, even if just to look at how good it looks. 5/5 ~havok2000

the game looks awesome and the texture's are a lot better than the normal game but unfortunately decade doesn't work on doomsday so if some can help me out that would be perfect ;)

The fun ran out after I got the red key. The fight in the courtyard with the red and yellow key switches and the Dead Simple thing are completely unfair, with no cover and no escape routes. The rest of the map is quite entertaining, and unlike the aforementioned two fights, lets you think your way out of a jam instead of running and hoping. 4/5 --Woolie

For the poster above, it needs zdoom or gzdoom that port has opengl support. http://grafzahl.drdt eam.org/index.php?pa ge=topic&id=230 It's large map with plenty of action and a fair amount of health and ammo to survive. You will always know where to go next. 5 stars coldfusio

Pretty intense level. Lots of great action! It was really entertaining from the beginning to the end. I love how you blended different maps from Doom and Doom 2 and incorporated them into this wad. Even better is how you gave them a unique and refreshing feel to them. The explosive crates leading to the Soul Sphere was simply bad ass.

Simply awesome map. It was pretty big, but the gameplay was generally interesting from beginning to the end. I especially liked the close to final area. Some hectic action out there. 5 stars - no question.

It's exhausting. Enemies keep appearing behind you and in front of you, squeezing you in and forcing you to deal with attacks on two fronts. It's kind of a bland looking map but it's a real test of your skills, but it ultimately just wore me down. Trades ambiance for onslaught.-GreazySho rts

Brilliant tribute wad. The way so many areas in this map are built to be "different yet familiar" means that this probably competes only with Z1M10 (KDiZD) for my favorite "Doom remix" map(s). Plus this includes areas from E1 and Doom II while the former (actually, later, in terms of release date) only focused on E2-E4 areas. So considering that, Decade probably wins as my favorite. Anyways if by some small chance you haven't played this, you really need to do so or you'll miss out on a lot.

Fan-f*@king-tastic!! ! Lots of familiar areas from Doom 1 and 2 re-imagined in a clean intricate style, and with ZDoom features like deep slime and sloping floors, and a bit of atmospheric scripting too. Presented in a clever progressive way that has to be seen to be believed. Keeps you on your toes in a great way, the two end battles are truly epic, but not unbeatable. Awesome map. 5/5 -jj

Alongside Vrack2b, and for completely different reasons, this is my favorite single map of all-time. Everything on it just clicks properly. Whether it be some awesome scripting (crazy rocket effect), great detailing (E1M3 area), or an insanely great layout, this map excels. Maybe the only disappointment comes at the end, but I'll live. This map is possible, but you'll really have to make everything count. Awesome.

Excellent piece of work. Pacing, aesthetics, design and difficulty all contribute to this map being as good as it is. The large kick of nostalgia from the familiar areas certainly didn't hurt neither. Amazing job all around, 5/5.

This is fun. Very, very long series of battles (over 600 monsters!), all manner of neat-o references to the original map designs in Doom 1 and 2, plus a few surprises made possible by what we can do with ports.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.

What the actual f*ck is this map. I love having 4 rockets, a shit ton of bullets and like 10 shotgun shells to take out a revenant, and whatever was in that cage. Doesn't look too bad, maybe this negativity is cus im no expert, also rather unskilled at the game?

thank god Underhalls was the map that followed this mod as that level was able to remind me what actually competent level design looks like.

Not that bad, even kind of interesting find the secrets in the map! But yeah, that switches jungle is a awful choice really.
