About This File

You finally get a much needed R&R, after months of 'cleaning up' on Mars. A friend of yours suggested an interesting site on Rigel V, an ancient alien city. As you enter the system you attempt contact for permission to land, but theres no response. You set the coords for landing thinking 'maybe theres interference, after all I'm still not in orbit'. As you descend you still get static, you begin to wonder... The landing pad is empty and theres no sign of life! Somethings definately wrong! No civilian base lets anyone land for free! Just as you touch down you see an awful familiar sight, cacodemons! You see the plasma balls coming at your ship, and you panic. The first thought is if they hit the fuel you're history! Into the teleporter you go, not knowiing where you'll end up, there's no time to be picky... As you rematerialize elsewhere, you hear your ship explode. The blast nearly deafens you, typical of a warp core breach. You can only assume the landing pad is now the newest crater on this world. Now there's no way back, and you've been teleported into a court with possessed troops who are looking for new targets...

Stupid monster spam in very boring green areas (only one room looks interesting) with some inescapable pits. I laughed at some of it but yeah, no need to play this.

No crashes here, but the map is lacklustre. I count 213 monsters, of all types, in an overscaled marble castle. Gameplay is simple: go through rooms, kill monsters, collect keys. That's basically it. Both boss monsters make a guest appearance and there's plenty of hordes to fight but you're ridiculously overstocked so it's nonetheless fairly uninteresting. At one point you need to find an unmarked door to reach the red key and the exit. Two marked but rather pointless secrets. Skip it. --2/5

This is dated September 1994. It's by a man called Don Bates and it's E2M2. You fight 237 baddies, most of which seem to be zombies you kill in the first room by blowing up some barrels... and beyond that I cannot say, because the level consistently crashed GZDoom after a minute or so. So I had a go with PRBoom, and... it crashed that too, after a few more minutes. Bad mojo. It didn't look very good anyway so I don't think we're missing much.

I made the mistake of putting this on UV for my first playthrough. Oops. It was insanely brutal and I didn't have a lot of fun with it. However, after checking out the readme, as suggested I went back for another run on HMP. It's impressive to see the huge difference in difficulty and I appreciate the effort in differentiating the various skill level choices. I definitely recommend new players play it on HMP or lower, that way you can really appreciate the excellent architecture and interesting color scheme, as well as that soothing DKC music that makes for a unique vibe. 4/5 for a HMP playthrough. The only thing lacking here is the amount of maps, and that's OK. I'd just love to see more in this style.   Rating when played on UV: 2/5. For extreme masochists only.

It's a very impressive megawad with a nice themed ancient Egypt atmosphere, with very nice choosing of textures to contribute to that theme, very nice architecture and impressive (and very risky) twist on the story going from ancient Egypt to alien spaceships, without using hi-pitched colors like in Ancient Aliens. Also, very tough megawad, if you're masochist enough, you can play it with Complex Doom and add LCA for more doses of pain.

It's okay. Quite easy due to the abundance of artifacts, mana, & health. The level design is fine, nothing special. The only truly bad part was the unmarked puzzle bookcases, forcing you to wallhump the entire library as a last resort. Otherwise it's pretty simple stuff, running around finding keys and smashing monsters. The texturing and lighting aren't fantastic but aren't noticeably bad either. The only glaring issue is that many windows just show a wall textured with the sky texture rather than an area with a sky ceiling. Yet there are perfectly normal outdoor areas. Perhaps the author only figured it out skies halfway through development? Anyways, this is worth your time if you want an hour or two of simple Hexen fun.

It's a nice wad overall, nice map design, textures and monster placement, enjoyed playing on D-Touch (GZDoom1.8) with Dude4th weapon mod.  My only complain would be the secrets, they have very few to no clues about their position.  There was a problem on E3M5 on the secrets around the squared starting room with stairs, the wall closes and let me stuck inside, had to use idclip to get out from those secret rooms.
