About This File

An remake of the original map completely made from scratch in about three weeks time. I tried to let my map look as close as possible to the original, and with an good result. I never thought I could't pull this off, but I managed to get it done. Added alot more detail to it, and some extra secrets an monster traps. If you like old school looking doom maps, than give this map a shot it deserves it.

it's okay. gameplay is slightly better than your last releaed wad. also, it's kind for people to keep doing these e1 refurbishings with knee deep in the zdoom in progres... 3/5 -bardcat

The detail is stunning. Amongst the best stuff I've seen. THe flow feels a bit jagged here and there and some walls hinder player movement too much. There is nothing too exciting gameplay wise since it's a remake of something I've seen too often. 4 stars - Starburst.

I like this remake, the extra detail is really good. However despite more monsters and traps, the level is still too easy for a single level

A nice remake, still a little too close to the original in some cases. But that's a matter of taste. I agree, the Chaingunners don't fit everywhere. But worth thw download for sure. I'd give it 3.75 / 5.

Well the original wasn't really hard either, I still loved to play this map. Some areas gave me an e1 and others did not, gameplay was rather good actually nothing spectacular bitt still good. Ill give this map 4/5, good job keep making more wads.

Nice. funny, loaded with plenty detailz0r as usual. gameplay wasn´t bad too. Cool Secrets. Worth spare some mins with this kind of toxins :P. 3.5+/5

A worthy remake. Definetly nicely detailed, but somehow loses some of the original e1m3 "feel" that only Romero could have designed. Still, a great remake. 4/5

Virtually identical to the original in too many ways. If you're going to make a remake at least add something new that amounts to more than just a few new monsters and multiple trim sectors to try and make it look 'nice'. It takes no thought or effort to do that, and it's exactly what I hope KDIZD is not. Stop being lazy and implement difficulty settings, and why put the wad/textfile in it's own directory in the zipfile? A very uninspired 2/5 FP

This has to be one of the most pointless maps ever made. Technically there is nothing to complain but why remake one map of E1 in a vastly inferior style but with no real innovation? Everything's in the same place and every solution that works in E1M3 works here as well. I'd rather play the original again - Ketracel White (2/5 points)

Good wad, difficulty is bit high compared to original and chaingunners don't really fit the theme. Some correctly placed impassible tags on walls could help players getting stuck / climbing on the walls effect. Great visuals. Feels much more Doom3 than Doom1. Score 3,5-4/5, so I'll give it 4/5. -smm

I liked altar and titan very much but this is bad. It's boring, shiteasy and almost identical to the original. The detailing makes the map cramped in some places. If you want to do remakes you need to add more than just unnecessary detail. 2/5 - Belial

Suffers from problems Dutch's other maps suffer from .. too many enemies and not enough health. The hitscan enemies drain your health pretty quickly. You're almost required to find the secrets to survive with the amount you're given. Good thing almost everyone knows how to get their hands on that soulsphere .. :P

There's a lot of detail in this level, but none of it is interesting. The level is too dark, and the number of enemies and their placement forces the player to advance very slowly, shooting constantly and hoping for a change of pace, which never comes...

As always from DD, a great work. This is a beautified version of my personal favorite doom1 map, and he nailed it right to the last corridor. The ammount of detail is insane. Just shows how bland and uninspired the original ID levels were... -TeH NeXuS

This is much like the original, although it's slightly smaller and flatter. The super-secret soul sphere section has been simplified, and thankfully you can now get out of the outdoors toxic pit. The exit to E1M9 doesn't do anything (currently). The extra wall detail was occasionally irritating, because it's easy to "hang up" on it when dodging. Some of the other reviewers mention chaingunners, but there aren't any on the map; perhaps there is another version out there.

Great detailin, but there isn't much here that's new. The layout is like a more open version of the original, with many of the same traps, secrets, and progression. Damn near identical. Gameplay is... okay. Just too predicatble. DD, you're a great mapper, but you're purely original maps are better than this. -Snakes

      It's large 1995 map. Starting area is looking nice, but later author lost creativity and made mazy corridors. Very challenging because of overuse of chaingunners. It's extremely annoying. Lots of traps, Some clever, some not fair.

      For 95' map is really ok. A bit "blocky" design, but not bad. Map is rather big, it takes me 40min but i get lost in one place. Some good traps, IMO kinda challanging at the begining, before you get ssg. Overall good classic wad.

      Fun map that captures a nice TNT-ish feel with plenty of weird yet also nice looking rooms, groups of hitscanners and demons to blast through, and a sense of adventure to it. Taking the MAP14 slot, you would see the episode 2 skybox of TNT: Evilution and listen to the track "Cold Subtleness", both creating a nice atmosphere to the map. Worth checking out!

      Doesn't like the layout and monster replacements, I didn't found RL until got the yellow key and found a lot of rockets, the location where RL is confusing me, and it also not fun when you get kicked down from the cliffs by Revenants, Mancubus and Archviles after the way to Blue key door, the way to the teleporter just far enough to kill you if not killed by monsters which kicked you down. Final timed puzzle room just nasty as the cyberdemon and archvile fights in the same place, not sure why make the level so big but can't make the fights with them also on bigger place too?   It's not bad level but I'm sure the frustration level is sky high, and not sure the slopes from ZDooM do anything good to this level too.
