About This File

This is my first level to a complete adventure I'm working on. The hardest level is very tough. The medium and easy levels play accordingly.

A decent level from 1994, it's a big map with plenty to explore and some alright level design. While texturing is not really good and there are those long corridors leading to big empty rooms, the level flows well enough that I don't really mind the flaws too much. An issue I have with the map though is the mandatory secret to get the blue keycard, and to spoil, the secret is your typical push on a wall secret. I never really get the idea of having to force secrets in order to progress onto later parts of the map, and while it isn't too much of a problem, it's still something I find strange. Aside of that, the map is not too bad and is lengthy enough to go through.

Hard to believe it's from 1994... Only some minor imperfections in this E2 style map. Gameplay is outstanding the whole way through. Be sure to look for the chainsaw, you're gonna need it! ;)

Hmm. This has some proper gameplay, but it's really old, so this rating is only relevant if you don't mind playing vintage wads. 4/5 - Belial

Rather "random" in design yet the texture choices have some charm and work out with the simple and archaic architecture. Play is relatively easy but rather balanced. [3/5] ~Chain Mail (07/2011)

This is from July 1994. It has nothing to do with the real E1M1. It's not bad though - you can run past a lot of the monsters, and the layout is nothing special, but it's more competent than most levels of the period. It's a mid-sized labyrinth with no real theme, although the textures are consistent within each area; not at all hard, unless you get cornered by a herd (swarm?) of spectres.

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
