About This File

of Level 1 Have you ever wondered where Imps come from? This level answers that question and more. In this level you will find the Blood Pools, runoff from the River Acheron. At certain times Imps are spawned right out of this tainted blood. You will also find their guardians. This level is meant to be level 14 of my expected 32 level WAD.

With several ambushes and puzzles, this level is the best single level I've ever seen. I hope you enjoy it - lots of work went into its creation. Its appearance ranks a 10.

Try starting with just the pistol and see how far you can get. On Ultraviolence, it ranks an 8 for hardness. I can do it with 3 100%'s and 200%-200% health and armor in about 25 minutes.

This level is a great 1-player, co-op, and deathmatch level. You won't find better.

Now this is interesting: two challenging levels with modern style traps and high monster counts, there is even a slaughter arena. Starts can be annoying if you don't know where to look for the weapons though.

Two maps dated July 1996. Map01, "Imp Hatchery", is excellent fun. It starts off with a non-linear section that turns into a hectic battle in a dark underground village. There's a clever bit with a BFG, and you'll need it. This is top-tier stuff even today, one of the best levels I have ever played. Map02 is if anything even better, an unsubtle slaughter-fest with barely a moment to rest. I don't usually hype things but these two levels are excellent.

Both maps have great gameplay and are very well designed. Considering their age that's quite an achievement. 4/5 - Belial

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
