I thought I was just gonna play a very average megawad with a weird level design, but in reality it's much worse than that. The skill and patience required to hope to complete these levels in UV is much higher than you could imagine.

Numetalmaniak's commentary summed it up well but I'll go on and on.

I think it's one of the most sadistic and unforgiving wads I've ever played. I can make a list of what's in store for you, even worse if you're a pistol-start:

- Critical lack of life and ammunition
- Secrets that must be found if you hope to survive
- Deadly Holes
- Obscure progression
- Labyrinth with toxic liquid (with sometimes no radsuit!)
- Weapons hard to find or/and protected by a ton of monsters
- Chaingunners , Pain Elementals , revenants galore
- Hitscan fest without armor
- Compartments with 45,000 monsters inside.
- Unavoidable fast crushers
...

The wad is probably less difficult if you know the maps well, but everything is calculated in such a way that very few strategies are really sustainable. It's very difficult to have fun on this wad, I've had enough of it myself. I'm going to try to finish it anyway. On the other hand, I have to say that the mappers involved in this project are evil geniuses. The monsters, the scenery, the traps are perfectly used to piss off the player as much as possible.

For a player with a minimum of sanity, this wad is crap and doesn't give any pleasure. On the other hand, I'm more tolerant: The levels are rather fascinating for their lack of fair play and consideration for human dignity.

Well done

if you want a megawad in which it feels like playing beyond hell, well, that's exactly what this says, except let's interpret that title a little differently.

this mapset is fucking dreadful. it's not on the same level as playmasters.wad, thankfully, but it's just awful in gameplay overall. and design sucks too. to cap it off: really dull gameplay moments at times, but then you get to slaughter lots of imps or other small monsters. that's fine, but the authors like to put chaingunners in just the worst of spots. to further add to it, level layouts are even worse, triggers where you don't know what does exactly what, tons of damaging floors, and some assholish crusher placement in many maps. let's also not forget the 0 brightness rooms and blinking rooms. some map layouts even get reused, like 01 and 12, then 13 and 27.

"highlight" maps:

MAP09: has a big FIREBLU maze that actually isn't all that fun to go through.

MAP15: chaingunners all around you at the start

MAP18: almost impossible to 100%, has two crushers that are impossible to avoid, TWICE.

MAP24: for continuous players, since MAP23 had a Type 11 exit, lots of chaos with hitscanners means just surviving at the beginning is insanity.

MAP28: alright, the only map I actually liked.

so yes, this was an experience beyond hell, and one of the worst megawads I've ever played. it's one of those megawads where you just feel worse after playing it.

edit: lol carlos what's your problem with my reviews, man.

Maps are annoyingly difficult and even playing in "Hey Not Too Rough", one map starts with like 8 chainguners in front of you?  Others start similar with shotgun zombies close to you.  Not even to mention like map15 I guess, where you have to cross a very long corridor where the floor is lava (literally!) only 1 radiation suit in the middle, a couple of stimpacks and the corridor blocked by monsters going from Imps to revenants, pain elemental and arachnotron, and to complete, after you activate the switch at the end of the corridor you have to take all the way back, without another radiation suit or any other power-up (idbehold - r did it's debut there).  Definitely not enjoyable, being unnecesary difficult, almost impossible.

This wad sucks, sorry. Nothing interesting here, levels look awful and some parts of it are almost as hard as HR, without being just half as entertaining. There's nothing worse than something that's ugly, boring and hard at the same time. Not even the fact it's from '97 saves it by any means.

Some maps are quite fun, but majority have some serious problems with gameplay. I spanded lot of time by founding something somewhere on the other side of the map. It doesnt look so nice. Lot of maps are made on quite distant grid. (32x32?) 3/5 for quantity - Damned (Ale jako jo ;) Nebylo to uplne nejhorsi)

Totally agree with the above comments - One or two Maps were good fun to Play (One of the early one's was a blast) but many have serious game play issues (One starts you in front of 9 chaingunners with no cover and will eat 30/50 health before you even start for example!!) and this decreases the 'Fun Factor' - Could, and should have been much better as the Author clearly has some potential. Average...a bit repetitious and nothing very exciting. But it's definitely competent at least. And not too easy either.

Wow, that's true blast from the past! I agree with some comments that put down the mapset. I should have reworked or rejected some of the maps, align textures properly, take more care with shading, etc. To perhaps justify the team a bit, there was almost no public internet back then, in Czech Republic anyway. Creating the megawad /at all/ was challenge, let alone creating a decent one! Still I think quite a few of the maps are nice and detailed, mostly from the second half of the wad in my opinion.

I'd like to thank the "0/5" moron and his buddy for reminding me about this fun (albeit uneven) megawad. I always meant to get around to playing this, but had forgotten about it.

I had some great fun playing this wad. It brought back memories of HR. The only maps that didn't play too well were 09, 18 and 19; the rest r0x0red more or less. 4/5 - Belial

Very nice maps, last ones too hard and repetitive, first ones perfect.

For the majority of the 10 hours I spent playing through these maps I enjoyed myself. It's a pity that it's a bit spoiled by what would take, at most, a few hours of tweaks in an editor. The HOMs could be fixed I'm sure. Most irritating, though, are the traps, which you can't escape from and about which there are no warning. Some, like on map28, even look like you've discovered a secret, only to be killed. So this was annoying in what was otherwise a fun and decent oldschool megawad. - pritch

Very good wad - lots of fun to play. Challenging and inventive maps, with masses of variety - it doesn't get stale like some multi-level projects do.

I would say 3 stars for this is a bit underrated. True, lots of texture problems and so on, but the gameplay is pretty fucking decent and keeps you on your toes for every second of the whole 32 maps. Great fun for me, and a definite recommend if you're a fan of the HR twins, Scythe and their ilk...

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.

What the actual f*ck is this map. I love having 4 rockets, a shit ton of bullets and like 10 shotgun shells to take out a revenant, and whatever was in that cage. Doesn't look too bad, maybe this negativity is cus im no expert, also rather unskilled at the game?

thank god Underhalls was the map that followed this mod as that level was able to remind me what actually competent level design looks like.

Not that bad, even kind of interesting find the secrets in the map! But yeah, that switches jungle is a awful choice really.

A basic and nice looking showroom type of map where monsters are trapped inside glass prisons, no exit and no way to play this with any modern source Port like DSDA-Doom and GZDoom, but works really well in Crispy Doom. It was a pleasant experience.
