About This File

So you beat the demons on Phobos, Deimos, Earth, and even in Hell itself. But the UAC's operations have finally been stopped. The weapons research the corporation did left a lot of radioactive waste as byproducts, and the UAC set up waste facilities to dump the stuff. All of these facilities were believed to have been shut down, but the last, UAC Waste Facility #253, is on Earth's own Moon. After you defeated hell the final time, they retreated back to the Moon, where a small outpost has been made out of the facility.

But you're on vacation now. Nobody knows your name, nobody recognizes you. Which was good. You were expecting to be famous after your many battles, but you're glad it didn't happen. You're taking a little reprieve on the moon, but before you got there you had no idea of the final Waste Facility.

You step out of the ship with the other tourists and onto the Moon's surface. The tour guide herds everybody away from the looming building imprinted with the UAC logo. The tour guide's perky voice picks up and your thoughts drown her out. A low growl interrupts you and your hand flies to the butt of your faithful pistol. Damn! One of those brown bastards from hell! Your vacation hasn't dulled your reflexes, so you whip out your marine-issue pistol and shoot the imp until the magazine runs dry and the slide locks. Two more imps have already killed the rest of the tourists, but you whip out another magazine, reload, and blast them into gory lumps of mush.

The Facility must have become a demonic outpost. You have to exterminate the hellspawn before they can plan some sort of attack on Earth. Time to go back into action, one last time. You take a deep breath and take the teleporter into the UAC Waste Facility....

Some nice details and rooms, but annoying, really annoying, no ammo, not much protection from acid, searching around and going into a pit with no platform/teleport to exit. Not a good play..

I enjoyed this map. I'd like to have given it a higher rating than a 3, but personally I'm not big on nukage pit cheapness.. Also, it could have stood a bit more length and difficulty balance (could have been much harder later on). Not bad at all for a first release, though.

"Ugly zdbsp texture misalignments": Not in Risen3D and GZDoom. The Z-clipping stuff is odd...that usually doesn't happen. It's meant to have the hellknight appear right in front of the player, not under/behind the player. "and areas that the player can get stuck": Where? Anyway, thanks for all the "constructive criticism". *rolls eyes*

Annoying gameplay - 2/5 - Optimus

Boring and linear, uneven detailing makes it seem like a collection of random rooms. Very easy, too short to be satisfying (didn't even last 3 minutes). 2/5 - Belial

Not a bad first effort, but it contains some major bugs and glitches. The author was made aware of these but for some reason has not fixed them. Ugly zdbsp texture misalignments, some bizarre ways to have monsters appear behind the player (relying on z-clipping), and areas that the player can get stuck make this a very skippable wad.

These bugs afflict the wad even in some of the recommended ports, and could easily have been fixed.

In case you're wondering who James Collins is, he is best known by his username, an_mutt. (Or maybe he is the front and opposable thumbs for his dog who does the actual mapping.)    Recurring Nightmare has good craftsmanship -- not just "for a speedmap" either. It felt like a low-detail Mechadon map: the offbeat angular geometry is there, as is the architecture that wraps and overlaps, all dressed in synergistic combos of stock textures. Gameplay is short and sharp, 50 monsters, generally a handful at a time, in smart choreographed traps that pin you in tight spaces with weapons just about good enough. It is harsh and to the point.    One clear misstep is the cleaned-up automap. [:^) Kappa :smiley_cat: etc.]

Yukio Ide was always a kind of interesting oddball to me, he made these weird maps filled with sound clips and low res anime pics from 90s bbs(mostly evangelion and Ah! My Godness! over some other unknown anime), but it have always some sort of "happy-go-lucky" that is unusual in a game like doom. Oh, and lots of crosses in the maps. But overall, his maps are enjoyable to me, for some reason. And this "love wad" to his waifu Belldandy is no expection! Level is short, colorful and have a way too happy music in it, overall is not that bad, but neither a great, amazing wad. Things like the million secrets (included in some rooms that aren't that secret, 2 secret rooms are behind a normal door! WTF?) in the map, the pretty bland looking map, that strange audio clip for the pistol shot (yes, the pistol have this audio clip almost unheareable phrase taken from the Ah! My Godness! anime that is just... weird and plain irritating, and the sound compression made it sound like gibberish) and the "love wad" affair, like other reviewers behind my time, is a strange thing to show your love with a wad where you kill people... Is like if i do a wad called "I love you Yohane" and make a slaughtermap filled with low res pictures of mai waifu for giving me courage or whatever, is just a weird and even kind of creepy thing to do. But the status bar graphics is pretty nice imo! I could even take it and change the colors of writing from pink to a more reddish tint... Is cool to have a japanese written status bar at your side, i think.

Short map (maybe one of his first?) made by Impie, the Robocop Doom and many other combos you have played in these years, including that wad based upon Lovercraftian universe (i don't remember the name now), this a short affair sets in this rocky canyon with some hellish sections. Texturing reminds me of TNT. Layout is pretty and there's some minor, very simple "speedrunning" trickery you have to do for passing trough the map, difficulty is not hard but takes you to the edge. Not bad.

From the same author of my previously played map "Gorilla Gore", another short and fun little map, less squarish than that other map and much funnier to play, i liked it. Also really enjoyed that handrail texture.
