About This File

This was my 1024 competition entry. The rules were given to build a map that fits within a 1024x1024 pixels map space (with no limits given for height, though). I don't know wether the competition didn't pull from the ground, but the guy responsible for it (Lutrov 71, or Lutty) left the community, or something, and people started releasing their 1024 comp maps. Community projects rarely succeed anyway ;)

What a nice map! It's very small, since it's an entry for a 1024x1024 project. You could call it cramped, though I'd prefer to find it "intimate". It's a nocturnal town-like ambience, very detailed with not too hard gameplay. You should have a look at it. 4.5/5 -Milian

There are still a lot of people who aren't coordinated enough to use keyboard and mouse simultaneously, so they'll cry "way too cramped" each time they hit the end of a narrow hallway. I wouldn't really care what NUTS-lovers have to say about hi-detail maps, since jealousy speaks for those who can't create a map smaller than 5000 units. I've played this map and was never forced to NOCLIP or shit like that; DWRFTOWN.WAD plays absolutely smooth, and is one of the best maps I've ever seen. 5/5 -- ellmo

Fun little WAD, a bit too cramped for my taste.. 3/5 - Optimus

I enjoyed it, although more as a piece of clever design than a level. It's basically a house/castle thing with some winding stairs. It's too cramped to be much fun, but the design is nice. Also, I like the fact of it being called "Dwarf Town". Dwarf is an inherently amusing word, like clench or crevice.

We played this on coop with Supergod (we had to insert coop starts first) and map was fine for me, as 1024x1024 map of course. - Zalewa

I totally revise my vote, since I didn't notice (yes, I know: what a dumb!!!) the fact that it's a 1024x1024 map. For one time, I didn't read the text file ... What a shame!!! And for such a map, it's a pure jewel. Thank you to allow me to correct my vote, which was so stupidly done... 5/5 - Jive

Indeed, it's a very nice level, well designed, but... Far too much cramped, man!!! 5/5 for the design, 2/5 for the global architecture, 1/5 for the gameplay (of course, you can't really enjoy it, when you can't even move and when you stay stucked by the walls all around you). Total: 8/5 divided by 3 = 2.6 - Final note: 3/5 - Jive

This is a tight map and a very good map too. I'm keeping this map to play later. 4/1/07

Meh, this isn't the best 1024 map I've played so far. The map looks beautiful, but it plays like gothic 99: Horribly. 3/5

This map really simulates house to house fighting. The tight spaces may bother some people, but it didn't get on my nerves. The detail and atmosphere were great. Four stars.

It's a neat looking little level (way too friggin short though), although I have no idea where the title comes from as I did not see any wee folk running around anywhere.

Exactly what I don't want from a 1024 map. Cramped and overdetailed nonsense. 1/5 FP

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
