About This File

This WAD is my best one to date. Shadow/lighting effects, difficulty level support - the works. It makes a killer deathmatch wad and will work just fine for co-op and single play also. My goal was to defy the common opinion that you can't have a great deathmatch WAD and have it be fun to play co-op or solo also. Well, try this one! :) Comments, good and bad, are greatly appreciated.

WARNING: Ultra Violent is REALLY REALLY hard. If you can get through it without dying send me a LMP of it! I'd love to see you do it. It is NOT impossible, just very hard.

From the author of maps 20&27 of Memento Mori. Fort Hades(27) was excellent, Mount Depot (20) was okayish and I found this one even weaker thanks to a marble-walled maze, a hidden mandatory blue key and a nonsensical BFG placement. However, I would recommend giving it a try not only to die-hard old school WADs enthusiasts; it is the most brutal map of the three, and this difficulty is what is the coolest and most redeeming here.

I dunno, the music and the sounds kinda blow (ride of the valkyries was cool in apocaclypse now, but in a doom level?), and it was more chaotic, throw-the-kitchen-si nk-at-you than inspired. III out of V - GreazyShorts

This is dated February 1995. For the period it's excellent; a non-linear planetary techbase that leaves you free to wander around. It's badly marred by the fact the mandatory blue key is inside an unmarked secret inside a large dark maze; you'd never find it without IDBEHOLDA. Nonetheless it's great fun on UV, very knockabout, loads of monsters and infighting. The new door sounded reminded me of a revenant, which made me jumpy.

Outstanding map, with excellent action from start to finish. The map is highly non-linear, and the player will be under fire from all sides for most of the time. Good thinking and use of the resources is needed. Until you know the layout, UV is tough even for experienced players, so consider starting out with skill 2 or 3. This map encapsulates exactly what makes Doom great.

Not that bad, considering its age. It's also quite a challenge on UV. The only flaws are the wierd secrets and the sometimes confusing level progression (which is because this map was intended as a good DM map also). Scott went on to make two maps for "Memento Mori" after this... --3/5
