About This File

Vae Victus II is an all new level set for Doom 2 utilizing new graphics and music. The episode consists of 7 levels of varying themes and difficulty. The first Vae Victus was an attempt to honor the traditional gameplay of Alien Vendetta and other classic megawads; however, VV2 is a more balanced approach that provides challenging battles without the swarms of roaming enemies. The architecture is improved over last year's offering, and is more refined in it's concept and design. I am a classic doomer at heart, so I decided to keep this wad compatible with every source port that allows for limit removing. Co-op play is also supported, as are difficulty settings. In addition, every map can be beat from pistol starts.

If you enjoyed Vae Victus, I have no doubt that you'll enjoy Vae Victus II.

If there is a flaw here, that would be that it doesn't try to innovate one bit - it's actually more simple than Doom and Doom II, with almost no ambushes and traps, or anything that tricky. That being said, it manages to be offer a great balanced diet of old-school fun and challenge, which is never hampered by the overall simplicity at hand. Got late to the party, but I've now found one of my favourite wads. Too bad it's so short...

I'm pretty sure the textfile tells all you need to know about VV2. what you get with this one is some nicely designed layouts for seven maps, most being neat techbases that are easy to work your way around, and gameplay usually keeps the player on their toes throughout. while the first VV offered some lite slaughter in perhaps the last few maps, this one dialed the difficulty down considerably and made way for just proper progression from techbase to hell, upping the difficulty slightly as you go along. it's all fine and dandy and there's no real dud to speak of here.

This is the kind of doom I love to play. Old school, not overly detailed, no slaughterfests, just great, well balanced, and fun gameplay. 5 stars from me. -TRRobin.

Very good, I didn't have quite as much fun as with the first, but I enjoyed it regardless. The architecture and polish are improved too, compared to VV1.

Maps are nice but as others have said gameplay is very easy even on UV. It can also be played through very quickly. 4*

Well what can I say? When you think about a level when your not playing it, wanting to, not thinking about your job, anxious to get home to finish it off... The only bad thing is it ended on map07. Hope 07-32 come soon... Splendiferous 5/5

Excellent pacing, good looks. My only beef with it is it was really easy on UV, I find vanilla Doom 2 levels harder than that. 4/5

This is sublime. The map design in particular is extremely clever; the levels aren't hyperdetailed, they are instead clean and simple, and they flow perfectly. Map one has a real Doom E1 atmosphere, which gradually turns into something unique over the course of the levelset. Nice simple new textures. The difficulty curve is perfect and it's never frustratingly unfairly hard. Level three has some surprisingly sloppy texture misalignments but there's nothing much wrong with this.

This author's skillset is without a doubt layouts, detailing, and architecture. He excels at making great looking maps that flow well and have good atmosphere. However, these levels simply have no teeth. I had to play very recklessly for my health to fall below 90%, and I never felt in danger. Nevertheless, I vote 4.8/5 stars in spite of the low difficulty.

really awesome flow through the levels. texturing/design on levels 1-3 was totally amazing, but 4-6 were kind of bland, though 7 was almost as good as the first 3. really fun, definitely worth getting, 5/5

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
