About This File

Stone Turmoil was just a 90 minute speedmap to begin with, but after getting feedback from the regulars of #dmclub, I decided I'd do a little work on it and release it. Minor gameplay changes have been made since, and skill settings have been added. I've included the original map (note: it has no skill settings, so it might seem hard to some of you), just so you can see the changes I made (if you're curious, that is).

It's good... but I was a bit annoyed with the start because after clearing the first horde of enemies, if you don't play out the next section in a certain way you stand no chance of surviving, like moving away from the revenents only to get ripped apart by two chaingunners and an archvile hidden on the other side. I consider things like that unfair, but aside from this it's a decent map with a great facelift when compared to the original.

This consists of two maps; map02 is the original, and map01 is the remake. The remake is a lot easier if you have played the original, because the traps are the same, and once you know where the traps are the level is a walkover. I'm not a fan of trap-based gameplay, because it's more like a memory test than an action game. Map02 is the more impressive because of the 90 minute time constraint, map01 is basically the same but with some tweaks and more wall detail. Three stars.

What traps? You hear teleporting and run. I found it fun and a bit easy. If you think this map really is unfair I suggest never playing any of the classic megawads.

Only reason this doesn't get 5 is because of the issue reviewer #1 mentioned. Alerting that arch-vile too soon = death.

Awesome map. A bit tough, as I spent almost half of the map with only a quarter of my health, but otherwise it's a great map. - Agent Spork

Why write a long review when a single word can describe this map perfectly ? Fun : that's all there is, and that's all that matters. 5/5

A major step up here by good ole Tango. Some wickedly spiky difficulty is the biggest (minor) drawback to a map that shows a better eye for visuals and a smarter layout as well. Improved connectivity is the key, here. The opening tiff is probably the most memorable battle as it can murder you if you're not careful. Fun. 7/10 - Snakes

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this is a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
