About This File

Remake of Hell Keep which is a much more realistic design than the original map. I made this from scratch using complete memory and nothing is modified from the original. The map is designed to look more like a real keep than a rather stupid sand castle, etc. Gameplay is easy to medium in difficulty on UV.

An uninspired remake.

A "remake" in the loosest sense of the word. It's the same layout and bad guy placement as the original map, but with extra visual detail. Also a missing tag on the exit door means the map is only finish able in a ZDoom based port.

I'm not a big fan of remakes, but that was interesting. 3 stars.

I'll fix the tag and re-release the level. I thought the exit door tag had no problems, obviously its Doom Builder's problem deleting tags from sectors. Hmm, the same thing happened in Simply Phobos E1M2 too. -PC

Very nice looking remake. Recaptures the atmosphere of the original, but with a much cleaner and more sophisticated look. Not very hard gameplay-wise, but the author definately achieved his goal for this map.

A nice remake, hardly gets any better. As an interesting side note, it's partially compatible with vanilla, however versions

It looks a bit cube-ish at someplaces. I also dislike the techbase textures found at places, (LITE3, DOOR1 and FLOOR0_5 comes to mind) but it does really look like a keep now, and you didn't mess up the gameplay in the process. Quite good for a remake. :] 4/5 - Da Spadger

I really like it, myself (4/5), and I hope you're gonna redo the other E3 levels as well and eventually bundle them all into an entire episode WAD. ;)

Pretty cool map I liked this one better than my version, I first thought that shotgunners don't really belong in this map but since its not an exact remake of the original I think its okay for them to be there its an pretty cool map 4/5 -DD

I downloaded this from the Greek mirror, because I am fascinated with moussaka. The level looks nicer than the original, and there's now a small moat outside the entrance and some more castle-like features. It's not quite identical to the original - there are more monsters, the demon pathway is more complicated, and the archway after the collapsing bridge is now see-through. Unlike the original, it now seems to be pacifist-finishable, although tricky.

I really like this. The novelty wears a bit thin, as there already were 2 remakes of E3M1 recently, but it still is worth a play through. The only thing i don't like is the fact that the secret Rocketlauncher at the end is pretty useless, as the level ends after this and all enemys are propably already dead... there was a RL in the original map afterall though, so it's understandable that it's still there. **** -Vader

The map looks great but it's a shame the author didn't try to differ the monster placement or even the level design from the original.

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this is a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
