About This File

This is a reconstruction of a Doom poster seen in a photo of Id's offices. The poster features a red demon face set against a black background, a large version of the image that appeared on the cover of the "Ultimate Doom" box. The poster itself apparently was never commercially available, implying that the poster in the Id photo was a one-off one-of-a-kind print.

This is a high quality file suitable for printing as a poster at a print shop. As a result, the file itself is very large.

I (fraggle) am uploading this to the idgames archive; Peter Heinemann gave me this file to host several years ago as he needed web hosting for it. His original description of this file is included below.

Taking a look at this again I can't help noticing that the color balance seems messed up and the demon (which is supposed to be bright red) is actually pink. I'm guessing it was caused by Peter Heinemann's scanner and was never properly corrected.

Fixing the image is easy in the GIMP. Use the Hue-Saturation tool to adjust only red; make the Hue component +15. Doing this also seems to fix some weird color issues with the Doom logo itself.

I'm stuck on map03 of the poster. I can't defeat the mutant cacodemons in the lab and I can't solve the puzzle in the sewers. Still a good WAD though. :) Seriously tho, it's pretty ugly.

This is a 19mb, 4136x6201 PNG file. It's based on the Baron of Hell image here http://preview.tinyu rl.com/yukwgj - I think it's a close-up of one of the models that Adrian Carmack made, tinted red. I have to give it five stars, because it does exactly what it sets out to do, but I was never a fan of that poster. It is however a great source for the original Doom logo (you could crop on the logo and use it as a desktop background).

One of the classic megawads, and the successor to TNT Evilution. I've played this several times over the years, and its grown on me more with each play as my tastes mature.   Still has a bunch of maps that got me killed in 2024, after ive finished stuff like HR and AV, and plenty of maps are memorable. Only real downsides is some of the levels have little content, showing its age.

One of the earliest Doom user maps and It shows. Despite the raw and empty design, the author take a good use of 3D space creating a small fortress surrounded by mountains, the level Is fun to play and not hard. A fancy escapade and a piece of modding history.

Third and final released map of a WIP episode by David Rager, it's more long, complex and hard than the previous entries in the series. A well made map with pretty challenging parts with a mix of monster usage, envoirnmental hazards and some puzzle gameplay. Fun but pretty harsh.

Two more misplaced DM maps without a exit like QUDOOM (that at least had a exit room, while not functional) that caught me by their file name and leave me for the bad experience in SP. Chicken is just a long bridge between a thundering abyss where cyberdemons wants to destroy you, meh. Gangstar is a more fun map sets in a big, abstract warehouse where a cyberdemon roam free trying to kill you, shotgunners and lost souls are here in this Hell corner adding more pain to the thing, enforced by semi-hidden mazes, my favorite.

This is like the physical version of the "we have X at home" meme in DM map format for Quake E1M1. Very poorly made, broken exit and missing textures here and there but at least the level KINDA resembles the original source somehow.
