About This File

Random map based on the Heretic Treasure Chest megawad (E1M5) http://www.doomworld.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37792 The map is based on a small desolate town hidden deeply within the mountains. Like Plutonia II, I saw no progression into the project so instead of letting the map go to waste, I decided to release it as a standalone map. I was told that there may be issues on source ports other than Zdoom (no surprise there) when trying to open the blue key door. I only tested this on Zdoom (unfortuently) so I really can't guarantee that this wad will be stable. Cooperative play is highly recommended.

Pity that I haven't played Heretic in centuries. Auto 5/5 is a given because I hate eating chickens.

I'm not sure that the word "legendary" is adequate enough to describe this masterpiece. Why it only has 18 votes is beyond me. An epic adventure in the Heretic universe. And ignore the first reviewer; he just doesn't like Heretic in general 5/5 -Stormwalker

One of the most complex and huge maps I've ever played for Heretic. Gradually opens up to reveal more and more. Good stuff!

Nice map, but I wish the Heretic Treasure Chest would have been completed :(. 5/5 Lupinx-kassman.

Remember, Doom fans, it's ENGAGE15. This is a large, garish-looking map; it's fun for a while but very wandery, and the action doesn't hook me. It would have been awesome as a Doom level. Perhaps I just don't like Heretic - every map (including this one) seems to have hundreds of lost souls, the weapons and monsters look ridiculous, and there's a continual "whoor whoor" noise in the background. I have to give it three stars just to be fair.

A very solid and good map. The architecture fits the Heretic universe like a glove and the map is great fun. Love heretic, love this map. 4/5 - Kristus

Reminds me a lot of the original Heretic levels. Lots of random ammo and powerups. Enemy placement seems random and haphazard, and I had more than half the enemies dead before I was even close to finishing the level. Still worth a play if you like Heretic.

This gets 5 stars from me, because while it starts off being so overpowered to begin with, and the only tactic is to run, shoot and dodge - it is 100% only Heretic. I wish all the maps that eventually went into the Treasure Chest stayed as faithful to the original design and atmosphere of Heretic. Not the most beautiful wad in the world, but still ticks all the boxes. Legendary!

Brilliant Map. A shame the Heretic Treasure Chest is seeing little to no development. Heretic desperately needs a good megawad. 5/5

Come back to the dark side Kaiser and build some more DOOM(3) levels. I don't like medieval, I want my shotgun! :-)

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
