About This File

The ZEUS Level is a showpiece for what can be achieved with a colour scanner and a little (ha!) patience. Not a technically stunning level design-wise, but a good taster of things-to-come when other people pick up the idea of new textures seriously. Music score not composed by anyone, Graphics and original idea by yours truly, and WAV sound effects by Nic Dyde at the Post Cafe, rue de Bern, Geneva.

Cacophonic "Steven" soundpack, baby pillars, Giger texturing, horrible gameplay, pits of death. Short sweet Jokewad. 94'

Jolly good show. Did anyone manage to grab the BFG? I think these Giger textures were used again in another wad, a gladiatoral arena.

This is quite bad in almost any aspect. New sounds are hopeless. Gameplay is too primitive. Overall this is far below the average 1994 map. Small 1* because it has some new textures.

Both previous reviewers gave a score of zero... I was tempted to do the same, as this is terrible 1994 rubbish with some sounds, but at least it does actually work so 2/5 meh!

Horribly out-of-place Giger textures, stupid sound effects, and - indeed - a 1994ish layout. It may have been if new textures were really still a thing of the future when this was released, but from today's perspective, it's worthless. Sorry.

The soundfx are annoying and normal doors are unmarked. Going after the BFG sends you into a death trap. Only good part was the caco room fight.

This is from July 1994. It has a lot of H R Giger wall textures, which unfortunately means that you can't see the doors; there's a new sound replacement which is terrible. I don't think the author cared about the layout, it's square and there's no gameplay. I ended up exiting the level accidentally, after falling into a lava pit and flicking a switch - you can finish the level in about twenty seconds that way.

A set of crude mixed bag of 9 maps from January of 1996 from shit(Map01) to pretty good(Map03). Grant it these maps are a bit on the easy side with a bit too much health & ammo but the large monster count makes up for it :)   3.5/5

Surreal psycho-robot salad. Love that frantic chessboard arena fight vs Cyberdemon. Slow moving rockets??

A bit dark at first, don't go blowing the barrels in your face, the maps were getting better as I follow the episode. I remember getting lost in e2m7 (my favourite).

Large techbase with a "labyrinthic" layout with some interesting special effects like invisible walls, including the weirdest choice of putting a invisible wall beyond a door making you think that you can pass it, but not. Plus includes non-toxic nukage (i like when in maps, especially in old ones, this thing happens!) and monsters. And big boxes of ammo. A lot of both, actually. This map could be put as some sort of slaughtermap, but not that difficult as you can think. So, just an endurance test.   The map crashes on vanilla doom.exe when saving and found some minor bugs for the invisible floors trickery at the lift after the yellow key.   Overall, a cool and thought map, overall.

E2M1 E2M1 is a good yet puzzling map. It contains chalk full of puzzles, secrets, and confusing traps alongside slightly cramped hallways. I also like the hellish theme incorporated and it could nearly pass as an "Inferno" Map! Another thing is that, its really impressive for 1994 and implements a lot of aspects in Doom Puzzles. Overall, a good map, could do some slight improvements on texture use though. E2M2 E2M2 on the other hand is an arena-like battle map. a lot of the architecture such as the pyramid is pretty cool and some other aspects of the map. The space of this map is quite big and it could use some more monsters and more guns with its overall big atmosphere..an average battle map, not bad!
