About This File

The first edition of the sequel to the original Deus Vult. Heavily emphasizes co-op play and demo recording. Offers a wide variety of gameplay spanning nine levels, including gun n' run maps, slaughterfests, and tight survival maps. From small techbases to hellish cathedrals, Deus Vult II's levels are diverse in architecture as they are in gameplay, and offer a little bit of everything for the entire family.

Horribly overrated, you'll likely stop playing before the 8th level.

I'm glad I stuck with it because some of the later maps are breathtaking. It all starts to kick off with those wonderful end of level teleports. Unholy Cathedral is indeed a classic, and it's difficult to argue that map29 is not a masterpiece. It took me 2 hours 45. There are some issues - the Sauron gloves lock zdoom up under a number of conditions - if you are wearing them and you die in some ways. I had to hard-reboot quite a few times. So, it's not perfect, but it's still special. ~ pritch

It's interesting, and some of the levels are beautiful, but it's also rather jumbled - all sorts of themes, tech base, Japanese, LOTR, hell, space station etc., just follow each other for no apparent reason, without any internal logic. Disregarding things like the author's attitude and the rampant fanboyism - this is only about the maps, after all -, these leave a "jack of all trades, master of none" feeling. Most maps are still good, though, so overall, I'd give this a 3,5 to 4 out of 5.

This is dated February 2008. It's an entertaining set of levels, intricately designed, with lots of new textures. Begins good-looking and easy, ends good-looking and hard, although of course I finished it Tyson-style on my first go. Oddly, I died on Map02 and went straight to Map03. In general it pushes Doom so hard I wish it had been done with a modern engine; it's so good it looks like a 10-year-old commercial game than a good modern Doom map.

This wad is just ridiculously amazing. Map 20,21 and 22 were the stand outs here. Unbeatable challenge that will leave you playing for more each time. Music was excellent (esp Map 20) and fitted perfectly to the theme of each map, but some of it was lacking in quality. Who cares. 5 stars -P

Easily a 5/5. Though I really can't believe that the fights to get the keys in "Hell's Vendetta" were heavily play-tested. I managed to beat "You Shall Not Pass!" without killing any of the balrogs, and yet I had to iddqd for the key fight against the clerics. Maybe I missed an invul orb somewhere *shrug* Still, only a very minor grievance in what is otherwise the best pwad I've ever played.

One of the best wads you can play. It's gorgeous, well designed, creative and very (VERY) challenging. There are a few tight corridor fights and quite a lot of slaughterfest battles. Be aware of that before delving in. Beautiful, frantic, and quite frankly, perfect. Map 21 is to die for.

For me the gameplay is not that great in some places (I don’t like puzzles), but because of the graphics and the atmosphere this is a must-have! I give it 4,8/5

Epic, original, creative, unique and hard as hell. I am playing it right now and no doubt it has to receive a caco! I gave levels a look and think stargate is the one I'm mostly digging architecture-wise, but we'll see. Hopefully my computer will manage to digest it for I experienced some slowdowns so far... 5/5- Nexus

This game has got a bug. I am playing the ultimate version and on Map21 (Unholy Cathedral) I can't lower the red barriers for accessing the main room. So, I can't get the red key for finishing the level.

Epic wad, awesome gameplay and levels. One point though Failing a level sometimes causes the next level to be loaded. Its kinda cheating, and Annoying!

This is a pretty good WAD that has as many good points as it does bad points. There're some beautifully designed levels in this WAD, including the stunning Minas Morgul one. There are plenty of challenges throughout, and the gameplay is varied to it's never redunant. However, there are some levels that have too much detail, which leads to serious lag. Also, some of the levels are really annoying (such as the Japan-themed one). The sheer amount of discontinuity between levels is rather jarring.

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this is a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
