Really well executed vanilla episode. Great gameplay, balanced ammo and monster placement etc. What else is there to say? Play it now! -TRRobin.

Fun set of maps. As far as recreating the feel of the original maps and the first good pwads goes, this is among the best attempts. However, I don't think the sloppy texturing falls under intentional underdetailing. I get the feeling that these maps were a speedmapping exercise. 4/5

I liked it. It was a fun, fast set of stages that I could just blaze through without ever getting lost or having to duck for cover and wait for opportunities. It's rare to see a WAD that forgoes all of the gimmicks and concentrates simply on good gameplay like this one. -The Unholy

Simply awesome, some parts reminds me some of old school maps i loved playing time ago (fava beans, retro episode, etc.), in these days I'll play to the second set, so wait for next further mini rewiev - 4/5 Daimon

An excellent episode; good E1 style maps and just enough architecture. I don't think it "needs more detail"; instead, I treat it as a good blast from the past (also see NMD2 - same concept but E2 style). 5/5

It feels exactly like playing a somewhat harder variant of the original Knee Deep In The Dead. Excellent job!

An excellent mapset, gameplay wise, but let down by misaligned textures everywhere plus these bugs ... E1M7 - Floor flat did not change for sector 122 because sector 126 already had the floor flat nukage1. E1M6 - FLOOR4_6 does not look good at sectors 159/161. CEIL3_2 should have been used IMO ( floor levels ). E1M3 - Player does not get credit for finding the secret at sector 17

playing through the first episode - the 'nostalgia' factor is great - download this to relive the memories of playing DOOM for the first time.

No. This has just enough detail. A very good episode for Doom that blends mostly E1 and (bits of) E2 style together nicely. Though there are a few unrealistic areas but I still really liked this one, hmm should I make a Simply Phobos II or Simply Deimos?. Anyway please download this. I garuntee that you'll like this mapset. [4.5/5] -PC

This is another E1 tribute. It feels uncannily like a well-made E1 replacement from 1995. Overall it's good but not great. There are a few bugs and wonky textures, of no consequence; the problem is that it's easy, even on the understanding that this is E1. The monsters are limited (there are no cacodemons or lost souls, and the only Barons are at the end), there are loads of power-ups, and I had so many rockets I was blasting demons with them.

Playing through this was an enJoyable one hour, so I liked it. But I also felt that it was underwhelming in the later levels, both in terms of difficulty and breadth. The shining beacon of this episode was flow, but having said that I still think more ambitious proJects, including the ones with more detail, are more impreesive and admirable.

This mapset has great flow and gameplay. It is quite easy for average player (like me). Few details and E1 style really remind me the classic Knee deep in the dead. 4,5/5 - Damned

Hands down one of the best E1 WADs i've ever played. Makes me feel like i'm playing Ultimate Doom all over again, only better. Extremely well done lighting, especialy on E1M2. Nice job on keeping a "Vanilla Doom" atmosphere. Definantly a 5/5. -r_rr

This set uses the E1 theme in a unique way to make some good looking small minimalist maps. The weaker points are the difficulty (it felt easier than the original, perhaps), and some small visual glitches on steps and the like when using Doom or Doom95. Worth a play-through, at least! ~Chain Mail [3/5] (05/2008)

This is a nice Knee Deep in The Dead style mapset with good ideas and flow. As the name of the wad states, these levels are obviously not over-detailed, however they are detailed just enough to make a good episode 1 atmosphere. The difficulty is a bit more challenging then the original first episode, but most players should be seasoned players by now, so that is only to be expected. Recommended! 5/5 -Lupinx-Kassman

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.

What the actual f*ck is this map. I love having 4 rockets, a shit ton of bullets and like 10 shotgun shells to take out a revenant, and whatever was in that cage. Doesn't look too bad, maybe this negativity is cus im no expert, also rather unskilled at the game?
