Basically very nice mapset: good layouts, good texture use, good decoration, good ambiance, and good gameplay. Having said that, in all these aspects it has way too little variations, sadly making the adventure too monotonous and at the end plain dull. IOW: 4 maps should have been more as enough. Overall: 4* because of its qualities, but as-is definitely not legendary. BTW Absolutely deserves a better end trap, this one is imho too 1998, so very unoriginal.

A lot more playtesting should have gone in to this episode. There is way too much health & ammo, and strange game play with easier monsters toward the END of the pack (except the very end of E1M8). Also, many of the slime/lava sectors don't cause damage (and one non-slime zone that does). Despite the high monster count in medium/small maps, this episode felt incredibly easy - except for two semi-challenging traps. The good build/detail is the only reason I gave this 3 stars.

I think I'd agree overall with the first reviewer on this page as I thought the first 2 or 3 maps were the best. That said I think it's worth playing though as I didn't think any maps that were any worse than average (i.e. 3 star quality). The Cybers at the end surprised me; I thought I'd won, so that was a definite "f**k you" there. I'd give it 4/5, but I'm putting in a 5 to move overall in that directin, plus you definitely want to play the beginning and see the ending in nothing else. 11/11/09

Having played through the original Xenus a fair while ago, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the gameplay in the early part of the episode was much improved. However, as you carry on the challenge goes and the swarms of pistolers return, so only 4* I'm afraid. Also, theres an unlisted E4M1 featured in the wad which is an E4 styled baron-heavy map.

holy crap why do people build wads with nothing at all interesting and that look exactly like all the other wads out there?? hallways and more hallways with computer terminals and lights. the author obviously put a lot of work into it, but the gameplay is nothing at all new

The rooms are nicely connected but confusing sometimes. Nothing really stands out and it can get boring, but it is a good wad and worth a go. 4/5

A techbase-themed episode with a very high standard of detailing. A good challenge without being stupidly difficult. Impressive. 4/5

I love it. While too many people try to go for "old-school gameplay" and throw the baby out with the bathwater by giving it old-school (i.e. plain and ugly) architecture, this one is superb in both gameplay and appearance. Whatever happened to making the best map you can without limiting yourself with 10 sectors, vanilla Doom, or the latest ZDoom gimmick of the month anyway? One complaint: ammo boxes tend to be placed where you MUST pick them up to proceed. Not good. 5/5 --Woolie

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.

What the actual f*ck is this map. I love having 4 rockets, a shit ton of bullets and like 10 shotgun shells to take out a revenant, and whatever was in that cage. Doesn't look too bad, maybe this negativity is cus im no expert, also rather unskilled at the game?

thank god Underhalls was the map that followed this mod as that level was able to remind me what actually competent level design looks like.

Not that bad, even kind of interesting find the secrets in the map! But yeah, that switches jungle is a awful choice really.
