About This File

Urban Brawl is the prequel to Scuba Steve's: Action Doom, telling your character's history before those events. Urban Brawl embodies a comic book look and feel with cell shaded graphics and story sequences. All of this is fused with a gameplay that is reminicent of an old beat-em up game.

5 stars is a given for this wad, but it's not perfect, gameplay was fun for the first hour or so, but the scarcity of guns makes the mostly melee combat a tad repetitive, even with the plethora of melee weapons at my disposal. The graphics is beautiful, there's no way around this, there's just so much well-done artwork and level design is great. The branching storyline is well told, innovative and shows great depth. - Doom Marine

^^well, it IS a stand-alone game with 100% original resources...excellen t use of branching paths and level design. Sure, it could've been a bit longer but that probably would've taken at least another year. I wish there were subtitles because sometimes it is hard to hear what the protagonist is saying. It also would've been nice if, instead of a single punch, more of a combo-structured combat could've been made. For this, 4.5/5 (5)

This is unbelievable. Since this does not use Doom 2, you guys should try to sell it on xbox live. Microsoft will have a new feature where the community can submit their work for download. I don't know the precise info, but it might be worth considering. Really fun to play, easy to pick up, fantastic visuals... wowawow. By the way, how many endings are there? I get the feeling that there are more than 2. Anyone know?

This wad has my 5 star vote! Nothing like having a combination of cell shaded levels, a story to fit, and plenty of brawling to go around! Kick ass!!!

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
