About This File

The first of my *completed* abominations released to the public. Was supposed to be a Halloween special, but I find election days MUCH more scarier...

Story:

Just as you where about to take your much deserved vacation, you receive a distress call from UAC, another alien invasion, hmm... You can barely make out what the operator is saying, so you press your finger against your earpiece, hoping to at least capture some of what he's saying. The man's voice sounds a bit frantic. You reminisce on the last alien invasion and wonder why this guy is so worried. Until you hear that this time, the aliens have invaded the local mall. Several civilians are killed. Well, you're always cleaning up peoples mess, so you might as well clean this one up...

Ending: This is DOOM, but hey, let's provide an ending story:

Upon discovering the portal that the inhabitants of hell used to invade the local mall, you decide to seal it off. You can only hold these demons back for so long. Plus, backup should've arrived by now. As you wait for what seems like an eternity, you decide that it's time to take matters into your own hands. You reach for your lucky grenade and toss it into the portal, destroying it. Hopefully that should do it. Now, as for the employees responsible for this carnage that damn near cost you your life, well, they are in hell, they wanted it that way anyway. But from now on, you decide that you will begin a boycott against that particular shop.

Gameplay is just okay, nothing especially interesting. But the level's theme and textures are pretty damn funny. Everywhere you look there's another little joke. It's worth playing just for amusement.

I don't know what the hell these commenters are talking about regarding a "creepy atmosphere", IMO you'd have to be a pretty big weenie to get scared by a Doom level full of joke textures just because its a little dark...

Yes, there is a yellow key door bug. Linedef 3368 has erroneously the line type 118, but it should be type 27, same as line 3367. A SERIOUS PLAYABILITY BUG !

It's not a bad map when I played it, nice use of gore effects within a mall like setting. Some areas were tough to navigate around in. Over all it was all right. 3/5.-Candle M

Very decent stuff, I'd subscribe the newstuff review 331 on doomworld for this one. Though some more work on detail and the shops should be done. But very nice atmosphere. There should be more stuff like that.

It's rather plain in design and it gets old having to walk all over the place trying to find where to go, but it's still good and pretty creepy for such an old game. 4/5

yellow door bug!! nonetheless the wad is very good: atmospheric, nicely balanced with good progression and some nice ideas - nearly everything is in a dark, gray theme; could need more high variation (details) and an improved scaling; - I enjoyed to play it, well done 4/5

Wow. Very unexpected and creepy map. This map is creepy in the aspect of 'Sense of Danger'. It wasn't too hard, but there were some unexpected part that kept me hanging. Great work, I expect to see more. 5/5 - Moti

      Normally, I don't like DooM (1 or UD) WADs because I tired shooting baddies with shotgun as most of them tend put a lot of shotgun guys/ammo and I have shot those full of shotty shit...well, this one can't escaped from that but I found author's tricky as I didn't found many of them(or they placed when I needed to use shotty), also the monster placements(with middle-tier ones) in this megawad helped too, even E1 doesn't suffers low-tier ammo-droping-fest unlike IWAD and most PWADs.   Level layouts and theme are interesting, some E3 levels just a little mazed but I feel okay, never get lost...many levels I feel plays like IWAD but better and larger, you'll found middle-tier monsters in E1 levels and it helps the gameplay, unlike the IWAD you'll have too much ammo in every level even pistol start, if you wasted too much and will out of ammo for sure(at least in UV).   All I can say about this megawad is...fun,  vanilla fun. Except E3M8, the yellow key area with platforming when all enemies + 4 cyberdemons are try to kill me and battles-of-deal-with-4-cyberdemons-or/and-other-powerful-monsters are nasty to me, on top of them, the final "BOSS"...I feel trolled...really? IoS-style?? IT'S ****ING DOOM, NOT DOOM 2 WHY USE IOS-STYLE AS FINAL BOSS?!  :P (At least there is no respawning monster cubes just annoying cyberdemons and barons...but they're still give me a lot of headaches as the battle area isn't very huge and a little cramped I think...)   But at least IDMUS11 helps me dealt with those problems all, for some reasons I feel the main theme of Power Ranger does fit DooM...don't know why but I keep switch to the theme with IDMUS11 cheat if I don't like the level's music, helps me blast through this megawad and the nasty E3M8. :P

I had an absolute blast with this one, and I'm not sure what Nems was talking about with the Boom stuff as this runs in Doom2.exe with no trouble. In fact, there is a TON of impressive vanilla stuff going on here. I guess it was so well done that it tricked him.   This deserves a high score. It's a lot of fun.

      It definitely makes Doom look darker, but also slightly changes colors (it reminds me PSX Doom). I prefer original Doom colors and miss how it looked on CRT (almost same colors as with modern monitors, but less brightness and maybe more contrast).

      Great spirit/item placements, and also nice trap placements. Textures are georgeous and scream "1980's sci-fi action movie".

      Some very cool techbases with a nice texture set and pallette.  The music is pretty epic.  And it all runs in vanilla! (Or so it is said, I played it in GZDoom)
