About This File

A total conversion set in the mid-50's on a weapons research base deep in the heart of Greenland. You thought this would be a nice boring way to finish your career as a Marine.

You thought wrong. (see cah_manual.pdf for the full story)

While it had it's ups and downs,I think this was the saddest wads I've ever played.I actually felt sorry for the hero and what happened to him.And yes,I know it's just a game.

What can I say? The only term that comes to mind when I try to describe this TC is the word "beautiful." An absolutely touching story, combined with the calm scenery and the lightest sense of mystery makes it a work of art in its own right. Before anyone takes this review the wrong way, I must say that the gameplay was quite difficult in its own right, and going back for items (mostly health, sometimes ammo) was a tad annoying. -- Zhs2

Best, awesome epic mod ever, but it's a little of hard. 5/5 :P - playerlin

I think this is good so far, though the monster fighting is just too intense at times as already mentioned, though in terms of your expansion into other gameplay methods, fights aside, very well done indeed compared to other similar sized works. 4/5

I would prefer a half-life style recoil that realigns itself to the center of the screen and provide to both types of players (keyboard and mouse) rather than leave one out. It's not even fun with the mouse as well. Besides the weapons are retarded-looking, especially the fists. The fireballs look stupid too, would a fast moving ball of flames really be shoving them up as if they were stationary? The levels require that I hump every pixel like in Phocas2 except monsters teleport in any time I do anything.

Amazing work you've done there, Jon! I love it because there is a realistic vein in it. 5/5. -Morpheus

I was really looking forward to playing this mod, however every time I play it crashes upon opening the restroom in the staff quarters (before I've even encountered any enemies). Also using the batch file to run does not result in your key bindings being saved to the included .ini files as suggested.

I've been playing this for a good long time, and I still think that this is the most perfect mix of Doom, Call of Duty and F.E.A.R. that I've ever seen! Extraordinary job!

The story was decent, the atmosphere was top-notch, but the combat left much to be desired. Too many enemies, way too much ammunition lying around, not enough variation aside from "Open door, see bad guys" or "Take key, bad guys teleport in". Plus, Hell-Revealed style monster hordes don't work very well when it's very easy to die, and you have to reload.

The first time I see that blind imp thing, it was fucking scary. Make sure those vertical doors open the olde way back in the ufoin' 1950s (for instance, the bathroom/slide door). Try to make a customizable hud and text scaling. I really hate that incremental monster spawn; it totally sucks, but that's only for the map02. I am not sure if flies could survive in the winter, especially somewhere in greenland. There is no way to kill the boss barriers.

I had the original version of this, was quite impressive even though my pc was a bit anemic for it. Ran across this one, and really like it, into it quite a ways. Nice change from find key, open door kill everything. Story actually is interesting and well done. Technically very well done, thank you.

I don't much like how gameplay is broken like usual with action-breaking switch/key hunts, how much it's biased towards mouse users (just use some other weapons mod for that), and how much it's overpraised like usual for a zdoom mod.

It's good for the first minute, then it just turns into one of those overpacked pile of shit wads. The hubs are boring the encounters are boring and half of the scenarios are bugged further more the controls are absolutely stupid and it's impossible to know what to do. If the first one had bad reviews, graphical flaws and alot of fucking bugs, why try and make a better one out of a steaming pile of worthless shit?! (Review capped)

The reviewer 2 above me is a total fucking no-brain loser. Either he's trolling, in which case, it's totally mandatory to ignore his rubbish, or he's the most miserable and biggest pathetic excuse of a person to ever play games. As for this mod, HOLY SHIT! 5/5 BEST ONE I'VE PLAYED SO FAR.

Dude, this is amazing! But I'm having trouble running on the newer GZDoom Engine, is there another update for it to run it or no?

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this is a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
