About This File

A remake of the first 3 levels of Doom 2: Hell on Earth, designed for GZDoom 1.1.6+. Features up to 10 times the detailing of the original levels plus Quake lighting, reflective floors, ACS scripting etc etc.

Although it is a remake (from scratch, I might add), there are parts of the levels which radically differ from that of the original design.

Incorporates textures by Nick Baker, skybox art by Mighty Pete and the title screen was done (poorly) by me.

This is dated November 2008. It's the first three levels of Doom II redone with modern-style detailing, lighting, and some gameplay changes; the detailing is very good, but I'm not convinced about the stealth monsters, especially the hitscan ones. The scripting is of the "you must flick this switch / this wall has lowered" variety, BUT the gameplay is still solid, which counts for a lot, and it makes a change from endless E3M1 remakes.

Not bad. The stupid stealth monsters killed it for me. 4/5

Cool, it is new, but familiar in some way! The stealth monsters are crap, so: 4/5

Bug: In MAP02, it'll tell you you forgot the SSG even if the only reason you didn't pick it up is that you couldn't due to already having max shells.

Doesn't seem that "Evolved" to me! There have been some nice touched in M1, like the floor grating, but although the maps are from scratch, IMO they stick way to much to their original counterpart... at least visually, there isn't much new or overly interesting here. Gameplay is horrible to be honest! When will you guys learn it; Stealth monsters SUCK, period! 2/5 stars

It's a good concept but I'd really have liked to have seen more levels and/or bigger gameplay expansions.

i would love to see more of these, but do you really need so many stealth monsters?! they are very irritating and most people just don’t like them, this would be way better if you just replaced some of them with normal monsters

It's Doom 2, only evolved! Now, remake some of the later levels. 5/5

Recommended play, download this if you haven't already. You can tolerate the invisible monsters long enough to appreciate the awesomeness of this wad. 4 stars.

Cool "EVOLVED" remake! A little of hard is ok, but I don't like those f***ed stealth monsters. :( 4/5 - playerlin

It's good but from where I'm sitting it's too faithful. Try to remake at least one of the more interesting levels.

This is an awesome remake of the first three levels of Doom 3! The quality of the graphics is amazing, the dark and eerie lighting is pefect, and I loved the totally revamped areas. The maps still retain their nostalgic value, but they're upgraded to look even better. I wish this was a remake of all of Doom 2--it would be hot! No, really, this was a remake of all of Doom 2...it would be too gorgeous for words!

I like remakes, but there are too many and always the same maps. Plutonia would be more original, or tnt or final levels of Doom2. It is also too copy of the original, better remain or knee deep for ZDOOM (E1). 3/5

Maybe these maps have been edited? I didn't see any of the stealth monsters people are complaining about.

A very nice looking map but I would rather play the originals. For me Doom isn't about getting stuck in heavily detailed walls and cut-scenes that interrupt the game. Oh and the stealth monsters were a bit annoying.

This is Doom map building at it finest. These hree gems do resemble the original maps without just copying them, and with the added GZDoom features and exquisite detailing make this one of the best maps I've played all year (2008) and I've played a few(!) I only hope that Dave finishes the set. One gripe I have is the stealth monsters, but that is my preference. 5/5

It was very good, a bit too linear in my opinion but it was just alright. Though there's something that's preventing me fro giving this a 5/5.. Idk what. :P Good work. 4/5 - Moti

Meh. Looked great from the screenshots on Wads in Progress, but these aren't especially interesting in action, either visually, layout-wise, or gameplay-wise. Much of what made the original maps interesting has been removed, and very little of interest (other than dynamic lights and 3D floors) is there to take their place. All of the cutscenes were completely unnecessary and detracted from the experience, as well. Disappointing.
