About This File

Here it is; the second demo of the Flashback megawad. Designed in the spirit of the original levels, with doom.exe compatibility. Hope you'll enjoy playing the levels as much as we enjoyed making them. Next release will be the final wad.

There are four maps; One from each episode:

E2M1 By Espi. (E1M4) E2M2 Esselfortium & Espi (E2M2) E2M3 Torn & Esselfortium. (E3M3) E2M4 By SlayeR (E4M5)

Challenging, interesting, playable, non-repetitive, enjoyable. 5 simple things in one package that slaughter gargantu-wad pea-brains can't seem to get through their thick skulls - things that people played Doom for IN THE FIRST PLACE. Superb set of maps.

Of all arch-viles in a ultimate doom map? Uhm, no... Yeah, I guess I prefer the first demo too myself, but I wanted to release a new demo before the final version. Thanks for the support, guys. Also it seems like it was rushed too much with my E3M3 as it has a missing texture so it is not able to play in chocolate-doom. :( Be ready for the final version when it is done (TM) :P -Torn

Old FBDEMO was pretty good, and worked well when converted to DOOM2 as well. First two maps in this set were new to me (3/4 wouldn't play, as Torn says must be some error my preferred DOS port can't handle). Anyway, had a great time in the first two ... I love old Ep1's feel and gameplay and had just gone thru it again last week. The 2 maps I could see of this project play a lot like the rougher/more-puzzlin g parts of Ep1, which is good by me. :) ~REZ~

E1 and E4 maps are excellent, E3 is good, E2 looks nice but is kind of boring IMO. All in all, not as good (or at least as consistently good) as the first demo but well worth playing anyway. 4/5. BTW, the fourth guy on this page is likely referring to the first demo (12304).

Decent maps but I think they they more or less fail at their "flashback" purpose in general, unlike the first demo. 2 and 4 feel like bigger and more current remakes of E2M2 and E4M5, gameplay starts getting too "modern" (tougher) in 3 and 4. The bugs in vanilla (broken lift in 1 with monsters, missing texture in 3, 0-byte REJECT in 4) don't help with that feeling either. But you have time to improve them for 2013... or 2018 if you miss it :p [3/5] ~Chain Mail (01/2011)

A nice glimpse of a megawad that could have been brilliant. Especially E2M2 was impressive.

I simply CANNOT wait for this project to be done. That is ironic to say considering that, for years, I though this long promised project, after getting such great outlooks from the quality of the demo 5 years ago, had fallen into the trash long ago. I am so happy to hear it is still being worked on, and this new demo does only more to prove the quality we can expect. It may just be the best Doom I reinterpretation ever made. Come on guys, don't abandon this one!

Very nice - each of the four levels captures the gameplay and feeling of the corresponding Ultimate Doom episode. Doc Faust

Awesome stuff. Still giving credit to the original ones but also with new original ideas. Quite a lot of monsters sometimes but still balanced (DooM 1 just lacks some medium monsters from DooM 2). Considerung it's a demo it should not yet be rated but this is a 4+/5.

A very nice teaser for what should be another brilliant episode. Somehow I prefer the first episode (id=12304) to this. Still a 5/5 wad though. 5/5

One of my favourite Doom "tribute" wads. Pretty darn good indeed.

Nice. I liked the last two levels the most, and there are six maps. Strange, I remember playing these levels before, that is to say, they were uploaded before. The maps COULD do with a few archviles, but they play really well regardless.

Sorry to hear you didn't like e2m2. To be honest I'm not too proud of it anymore, either. -essel

^ completely agreed. Three critical bugs per four maps is shame for Torn.

I like e2m3 and e2m4 the best, and I'm sorry but I thought e2m2 was boring. 5

Huh? That last review makes no sense. There are four maps, not six...but you prefer the last two (being 5 and 6)? Are you trying to say you didn't like any of these and that you prefer the original Doom maps, or what? o_O I'm confused.

Pretty darn good indeed, even though I encountered a few breaking bugs in chocolate.

The first level's brilliant - though I have to say it goes downhill after that. Second level overdoes it on huge rooms and the third definitely loses the doom feeling.
