About This File

I just wanted all doomers to play First Doom one more time. All maps are similar in design and difficulty to their originals, but they are build from scratch. Please, don`t acept it is a plagiarism, it`s just an alternative to such things like Mood, Randoom or modified ID levels..

In map E4M2, the idiot has a blue key switch where a red key switch should be.

Map E4M2(my favourite) is better than the original one. The others maps are equals to or worse than the originals, but they have the spirit of them. Very good. 5/5

No good. It's just the original DOOM levels, with twists - stairs go up instead of down, rooms are mirrored, areas are moved around and connected in different ways, and so on. There's nothing *ORIGINAL* about this, and the editing's not great, either; there's much better E1/E2/E3/E4-style levels out there. The author deserves some credit for trying, and the levels aren't outright bad, but they're not good, either.

A great twist on the classic, gives another reason to play through Doom again!

I think a lot of the levels are too similar, a bit like instead of normally turning left the player turns right and instead of finding the armor room in section 2 the player finds it in section 4, etc. Still, the levels are impressive. A Doom 2 remake would have been more interesting :)

On the surface these are pretty good levels that are fun to play. But on the other hand they resemble the original Doom levels too much. Many of them seem to just shuffle around places from the original levels into a new configuration. Some of them change nary a thing. If you're not into this kind of thing, just play E4. It has the best, i.e. the most different, levels. 3 stars.

It is certainly not a wad to play if you are looking for brand new levels, but if you are looking for a new way to play Ult. Doom all over again, you can't do better than this (at least until the full version of Flashback comes out). I think it is better than the original game. 5/5 (for those who like this type of stuff, me included) -Brandon D. Lade

Thank you for making and releasing this. It's like playing the original again but different. Game play is just as good and texture use is actually better imho. At least they are all aligned properly. Looks and plays super with doomsday and the texture model packs which i highly recommend using. 6/5

Really good gameplay, E3M9 was really fun, so were some others. The surprise Cyber in E4M7 really surprised me.

As was said, the maps are only variations of the originals. Nothing new is added, and the boss battles are less memorable. 4 stars for the effort.

Remember Mario Kart 64's Mirror mode? Essentially, that's what this is, for Doom. If you've played Doom, you've played this. That's not to say it's not good, though. 4/5

For some reason the remake of the secret passage in E1M2 literally brings the ceilings down throughout the level; in other words, every time you shoot the door (or the opening) the ceilings drop progressively lower until the level becomes impassable. Otherwise, brilliant design -- brilliant upgrade of the original! Just the thing you should be looking for if you're bored with the original levels but don't want something too vastly different. 4/5

I don't see why this has four stars. It's too close to the originals, and what's changed isn't all for the better either. Two for the effort though.

Chop Doom up into pieces and reassemble it differently, and the result isn't any better than Doom was, and probably worse for being so derivative. Fun for a while, but Back to Basics, CH Retro Episode, Phobos: Anomaly Reborn, or even KDiZD are infinitely superior tribute mapsets, because they actually give you an original experience instead of regurgitating doom.wad and pretending it's new. If you want to play "First Doom", play it, not this. 3/5 --Woolie

Meh, it's okay. But honestly, if you are looking for doom wads. Don't look here. 3 stars for effort, we want new experiences.

This is actually quite an achievement. All four eps look and play like quality iD maps circa 1994. I'm enjoying it, but coming after UTNT it just shows how far the Doom engine has come in terms of art, design and craft. Props to Wraith for 3 years of solid work, old-school Doomers and diehards will appreciate this (hell, I do). But the lack of detail and Doom 2 monsters shows how limited the original game was. 7/10 -Zich.

The levels are just like the original but with a another layout. I don't like that. I want new levels, not a new version of old ones. 3/5 for the effort.

One of the classic megawads, and the successor to TNT Evilution. I've played this several times over the years, and its grown on me more with each play as my tastes mature.   Still has a bunch of maps that got me killed in 2024, after ive finished stuff like HR and AV, and plenty of maps are memorable. Only real downsides is some of the levels have little content, showing its age.

One of the earliest Doom user maps and It shows. Despite the raw and empty design, the author take a good use of 3D space creating a small fortress surrounded by mountains, the level Is fun to play and not hard. A fancy escapade and a piece of modding history.

Third and final released map of a WIP episode by David Rager, it's more long, complex and hard than the previous entries in the series. A well made map with pretty challenging parts with a mix of monster usage, envoirnmental hazards and some puzzle gameplay. Fun but pretty harsh.

Two more misplaced DM maps without a exit like QUDOOM (that at least had a exit room, while not functional) that caught me by their file name and leave me for the bad experience in SP. Chicken is just a long bridge between a thundering abyss where cyberdemons wants to destroy you, meh. Gangstar is a more fun map sets in a big, abstract warehouse where a cyberdemon roam free trying to kill you, shotgunners and lost souls are here in this Hell corner adding more pain to the thing, enforced by semi-hidden mazes, my favorite.

This is like the physical version of the "we have X at home" meme in DM map format for Quake E1M1. Very poorly made, broken exit and missing textures here and there but at least the level KINDA resembles the original source somehow.
