About This File

20 levels: Some short, some deadly, most with stone-like textures, and each with midis from Doom, Doom 2, Requiem, Momento Mori 2, etc. (Look under "Level Information" for more info)

Be sure to look for the "inspiration points" in certain maps.

Average map set, not bad, but also not great.  Nice the idea of stone texture inspired maps, gives the maps a theme.  Very rough start with few ammo and weapons to fight several revenants, arachnotrons,hellknights even barons ^^;

Minimalistic architecture with lots of squared room, a bit of misaligned textures.  But overall, was fun to play, I give it a 3.5/5

When I first played this, I thought it was some mapset from the 1990s, but I'm surprised this was released as late as 2009. Why was DCK used to construct this when other better utilities existed at the time (even Dystopia 3 was better and that used DCK)? Honestly this is one of the most boring packs I've played - most of the one-monster-per-room combat and "traps" can be avoided by just walking around/away from monsters. In addition, every single room seems to have a theme that clashes with the adjacent rooms. This left me exhausted after playing from just playing half of the pack because of how boring and uneventful this was. The only good part about this pack is the good night's sleep that it induced.

it's cool. pretty average, but you know what, the average set could in fact fair a lot better than something overly ambitious. Stone Strategems barely does anything new, just offering 21 levels with some decent Doom action in each one. main theme is stone/rock, which is pretty good I guess. author does try to make some of the levels memorable with a few ideas. MAP01 is pretty slow for an opener, and some might be thrown away at MAP02 and MAP03 unfortunately (they're pretty bad in comparison to the others). the set picks up the pace quite a bit after those two duds, with MAP11 having an interesting slaughter arena at the yellow key. maps afterward aren't too memorable but not necessarily that bad, MAP12 being my favorite of the bunch. if you simply want another Doom 2 experience, give it a go.

Gets three only BECAUSE it is average. Levels are easy and there's nothing really appealing about this wad. -Kirby

My first reaction is to jump kick my computer... However these levels do get better later on... not much better but some of the levels are kinda cool.

I remember seeing this over at DooM Depot, it was under like a best of level making. To me this was way to claustraphobic, this didn't appeal to my tastes. Also that was an older version, but after playing this, this was a big ol meh written all over it. Skip it.

Much better than the wads I played some time ago this year. Short, enjoyable maps that cut your throat through! Only problem is this: "Difficulty Settings: N/A", the author seemed to be a bit lazy there, but nonetheless I give 5/5, one of the best wads this year for me!

Kind of bland and boring. The later maps do improve a bit though.

20 meh maps...the first 13 maps are very easy, are mostly made of square rooms and lack pretty much any kind of design. The last seven maps actually do show some kind of design and map progression, but their problem is that they tend to be very unfriendly for pistol starts; some are outright impossible and some require you to find secrets to get weapons. Aside those pistol start issues these maps aren't exactly bad, but still, play only if you have nothing better to do.

      Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

      It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.

      What the actual f*ck is this map. I love having 4 rockets, a shit ton of bullets and like 10 shotgun shells to take out a revenant, and whatever was in that cage. Doesn't look too bad, maybe this negativity is cus im no expert, also rather unskilled at the game?

      thank god Underhalls was the map that followed this mod as that level was able to remind me what actually competent level design looks like.

      Not that bad, even kind of interesting find the secrets in the map! But yeah, that switches jungle is a awful choice really.
