About This File

One level for 'advanced' Boom compatible ports.

Probably it is my vision of nuts.wad. It's easy to play and fun.

You need to have modern computer (Core2Duo+ or similar) and good optimized port with support of hi-res textures in wads and music in OGG format.

GLBoom-Plus 2.5.0.2+ is STRONGLY recommended. Do not use PrBoom-Plus 2.5.0.1 or earlier.

"SkyBox" sky mode and "Fog Based" sector light mode (available in prboom+ 2.5.0.3.test) are recommended and do not forget to enable in-wad hi-res textures. (it's ON by default)

WARNINGS: 1. (G)ZDoom has strange issue with speed. It's 1-2 fps when monsters are sleeping. After awakening it's more or less good, but still 4-20x slower than glboom-plus.

2. Eternity and Boom 2.02 have some issues with tall patches.

3. Classic PrBoom and PrBoom-Plus before 2.5.0.2 have no support for hi-res textures in wad - do not use it.

MUSIC: NoMeansNo - "1985 - You Kill Me" - Long Days. Hope it will not be banned because of this 24 years old song.

there's a lot of space on the outside, so getting the huge horde enemies to infight is really easy to do by running along the outer circle, that's if you can handle the massive lag spike.

Simple slaughtermap consisting of an open area and some towers, having @ UV 8888 + a lot more = about 10K monsters. The totally 1-dimensional gameplay consists of the usual creation of infights. If you're one of the few who like this cup of coffee, then give it a try, else skip it. Overall despite the shown technical skills very small 2*, because this is a very cheap map with gameplay which is plain uninteresting.

Yay got about 2 fps before the monsters saw me, and when I started shooting immediately slowed down to about 1 frame in 3 seconds! But the map itself does look pretty cool, so it'd be 4/5 but that music annoys the hell out of me, so just 3/5

Fun. It's not a hard map, especially if you're not aiming for max kills, but it still fills you with wonder and fear like maps of this sort should. Ran flawlessly on Glboom-plus_fast 2.5.0.2 with help_friends off on this old rig. -Creaphis

Pretty map design, but outstandingly stupid gameplay. 0/5 for gameplay failing to live up to the potential of the map design.

This guy normally produces maps in the 'decent to excellent' range. This however, his latest offering, is one of those stupid joke wads with 8888 monsters in one large arena (nuts.wad ilk) that, even on my powerful PC the slowdown renders it unplayable. Come on Mr Deadall, you (and everyone else) know you can do better. 3/5 -2.999/5 = 0.001/5

Nothing special. The fights are boring, and except for looking a little surreal the visuals aren't anything to write home about. This is more of a lazy "Dali Doom" experience than anything else. 3/5

Despite the 8888 monsters, this wad is really easy but what is awesome is how Eternall has placed those monsters in a Nuts fashion without generating an annoying gameplay. Details are cool too. 5/5 - K!r4

This is Awesome. I love this like B.PR.D's Nuts 3! 4/5 (I used the anibus and notarget cheats in the console to speed frame rate lol).

It's un-playable on my AMD X2 3600+,8600GT with GZDoom 1.4.3, it give me 1 fps all the time.(I know this wad needed glboom-plus, but NO, I won't download that just for play this nut-style wad. :() And I fail to understand why make this wad for GLBoom-plus only? Show that port is awesome to handle this shit? NO, it just a ****ing epic fail, IT'S DOOM, not SERIOUS SAM or somethings like put shitload of enemies on the map. Even this WAD still has some good points on it. 2/5 >_< -playerlin

This is not what you are here to make, Eternal. You are one of my favorite mappers. Use your talent wisely instead of having to make some type of Nuts ripoff. And on that hand, I'd really like to see another (serious) was from you soon.

2.5/5   Core combat is a strength. It's brisk and easy, and you'll be using the SSG to double-kill imps, pellet-slap mancubi's bellies, and get a firm grip on boners in your area. Apart from that, I found the experience lacking. Visuals, though okay, suffer from alignment issues. Wandering back to the exit door, far from its requisite key, accounted for a good chunk of my five minutes playing.

Lakeside might also be named Loopside: every major area appears on your itinerary no less than twice, no backtracking. Don't want to pick off cliff imps in the start area? Pouring bullets into a fatso too slow? Ignore those Bezos. Come back with a bigger weapon.   Though the whole arsenal minus the BFG appears at some point, I ended up replaying this and restricting my options to the berserk fist and the carefully rationed plasma rifle. Naturally that implies a lot of punching, with the motley cast -- 89 monsters, many punchable, many not -- offering a slate of tricky, fun Tyson challenges. To get a max this way, navigating a pair of hectic infight-baiting scenarios is pretty much mandatory. I loved it. It makes good pugilistic practice. There is even a {spoiler}demon to fist.   This is a speedmap, also a positive! Speedmaps have two big traps to avoid: the first is outright sucking, the second is having no ideas and half-baked content. Once they do both, I usually like them.

In Bricked, Rhys does nothing offensive. Over 10-20 minutes of play, depending on pace and completionism, you can expect fair and balanced combat, and a gradual ramp-up through the arsenal and bestiary, starting at the bottom and settling before the BFG and big bosses come out. I'd describe the dominant theme as "stock brown," with help from assets like computer panels, the silver starbase cluster, and CEMENT (the bathroom tile suite).   Having played many user maps, I've seen a lot of all of this before. It's okay, but little stood out. I liked the fighting most in the larger spaces, which allowed me to go out of my way to get numerous factions infighting. Interactive triggers like lifts and stairbuilders and optional switches are more common than average, and they are used smoothly (which is important, because extra machinery is simply a detriment if it's awkward and inscrutable).   Note: though the tally lists eight secrets, two are errant flags on a window sill.

Played at UV with keyboard only (as I always do). EPIC II is a very good megawad with challenging gameplay and very beautiful textures. After MAP 19 there're a lot of tough encounters, mostly with wave of chaingunners and cyberdemons in tight spots as well as frequent usage of archvile in all maps (with MAP 29 having 87 archviles at UV!).Thankfully the author gives enough ammo and powerups to deal with them, so it's fair game. However, a complain I have is in 3 or so maps the author uses teleporting cyberdemon to create artificial difficult to the player and in my opinion it's dumb enough to warrant the loss 0.5 less star. My final score is 4.5/5, but doomworld rating system doesn't allow this so I'm gonna rate it 5 stars. I will certainly replay this one and would recommend UV difficult only for advanced players.

Solid wad with a purple color scheme and new enemies.  Music choices are enjoyable, difficulty starts off low and ramps up considerably towards the end.  MAP07's end was a total beef wall, though.  Make sure you find all the secrets in that one if you want to stand a chance.   All around, no bad maps in this wad.  Four stars.
