About This File

Espi originally produced this map for my ninth speedmapping session (sbspd009.zip), back in 2003.

I've since spent a number of hours revising and recreating this map, as Esa did with the map he created for my eighth session.

A really good looking short map, including interesting trickery like 3D bridges, very great layout and monster placement.

Short and sweet! Some interesting texture choices. I love the prevalence of the red brick texture that's often underused in other wads. The light decoration in the alleyway with the raised floor and use of mid textures was an interesting touch. I also thought the level exit was also unique and aesthetically appealing. As for gameplay, It's smooth and fun with good flow.

A most excellent map. 5/5 if it were a map in a series, but 4/5 on its own, because the plasma rifle is placed after all of the enemies. Couldn't use it on anything, and it feels good to use that gun.

A fun and quick action-packed city map. Uses all three dimensions well to make the most of what is, in fact, a very confined playing area. Progression is straight-forward and the gameplay is violent but very fair. No secrets. Recommended. --4/5

very possibly the best doom 2 level I've ever played. Just frickin' awesome. A whole episode of maps like this one would be too awesome. Every mapper should try to emulate this simple style and gameplay. Great atmosphere, too. Very Doom 2 city. --Hellbent

It's a good 5-stars for a short map, very enjoyable few minutes of play and too the point. But I think I've seen this map before (http://www.doomworl d.com/idgames/index. php?id=12016).

pretty nice, but over a bit too soon. didn't need the plasma gun as everything was dead by then. still a lot of fun without anything that sucks about it. 4/5 NT

If you like Doom 2 maps this one is put together alright and gets to the point. Nothing especially interesting, though. At least it doesn't waste too much time.

Very nice 3D layout with clean classic style texturing but monster placement kind of sucks. Open door leading to a small room, see some monsters inside, easily kill them without entering that room. This happens several times. So overall it's only OK, can be fun for 4-5 minutes.

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this is a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
