About This File

My small series of Doom levels that follow the original game's episodes continues with this episode 4 themed level for Ult Doom.

Expect no slaugherfest here. There's plenty of other levels out there who offer that. This is just old school Dooming where every kind of player should be entertained.

The level started out life way back in 2000, I think, as a Flay The Obscene level. Then I joined Doom Millenium and it became a part of that. But since that never got released, this level just faided into the lost corners of my harddrive. It survived until this date when it has now been completely revamped and has undergone a lot of changes with new areas, a new route through it and all the textures/flats changed. I have changed so many things that I might as well have built it from scratch :)

The level is made for zdoom/gzdoom to avoid incompatibility with other ports. There isnt a lot of features but if you want the experience I intended when making it, then the best thing is to use zdoom or gzdoom. There is a good chance that you wont encounter any problems if using another port, but that is your responsibilty, not mine. I prefer gzdoom where I think this level looks best. I use zdoom 2.4.0 and gzdoom 1.4.0 which runs the wad without problems.

Jumping is intentionally disabled and please don't use crouch either!

LOVED it. great use of actions. floors moving all over the place. seeing your goals on some as-yet-unreachable ledge and then finally getting them is nice indeed. very e4-feeling map, thematically speaking. I gotta find more of this guy's work. 5/5 NT

Very good E4-ish map that would fit right in the original. Would be a par with Outer Darkness. Unless you hate TFC there's little excuse to pass. Though one teleporter trial/error puzzle wasn't needed.

Chris Hansen? I don't even have to play it to know it's good! Bring on High/Low 5 (promises to be a Doom II styled level)!

Amazing! Chris Hansen, king of the layout. The series continues with the very sinister ep4 style. This level weaves and intertwines with itself more than my grandmother's knitting needles on steroids! If Malcolm Sailor were still building levels, he'd have a really hard time keeping up with the consistent quality and unique level layout that Chris exhibits here. Take a bow everyone, the man has done it again. Thank you!

I gave it a chance only because I'm the WAD author's fan - at first I hated this. There are some not obvious switches like infamous torch of Alien Vendetta MAP01. Tons of lava and ledges, like in E4M2 of TFC, not my favourite. Of course it is a very nice map, but it plays awfully... until the cyberdemon at the end, that was cool. No typical ZDoom features, but (G)ZDoom only, I'm afraid. 3/5 stars, vdgg.

It's annoying that people who vote 0 stars often give no reason. If only we could flag votes as spam on idgames... Anyway, like all Chris Hansen maps, the layout of this map is spectacular. There is plenty of eye candy to be seen. There could have been more health near the halfway mark of the level, and there was too much ammo in general - but the game play is very challenging nonetheless. The last fight offered more of a challenge than I expected. Highly recommended!

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this is a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
