About This File

A 21st century Hexen adventure that takes advantage of the latest GZDoom features. A scripted RPG system brings the characters to life and with many new weapons, spells, artifacts and monsters means it will be much tougher than any other Hexen adventure!

it's too bad the game doesn't really warn you that there is a timer set after defeating Eidolon to reach first level. It's unreal to get the best ending if you've failed to reach the ship before that "timer" runs out.

I wanted to like this project, because I think the addition of shops and money to Hexen is a really nice idea, and a lot of work has clearly gone into this. Unfortunately, this is the Hexen equivalent of NeoDoom: a mishmash of third-party resources, unbalanced gameplay, and dull map design. If you like this wad, your status as a Hexen fan is revoked, and you are now an Eragon fan. Sorry, I don’t make the rules.

Best Hexen megawad i've played so far, though final boss could have used some more bossy theme. 5/5

I really wanted this to be good - only description that fits these hubs is Overwhelmingly boring. Like Korax mod without the fun. Played as fighter, after playing through first hub for days still didnt find any weapons. Level design is blocky and puzzles are repetitive.

It's okay for the most part but really not friendly to just pick up and play. Finding gold is too tedious, it's hard to level properly with limited monsters, and there do not need to be strong monsters in the first area. The weapons are very easy to miss and I found some puzzles hard or just unfriendly. I do like the music but wish it was packed in a manner besides files with no extensions so I could play them outside of the game. 4 of 5, could be better- Diosoth

interesting, yeah. but unfortunately it seems like it suffered from being a bit tedious and boring at times, and being released before a number of major and minor issues could be fixed. the boat scene was especially boring as well. i guess next time don't rush it out just so it can be mentioned in the cacowards. 2/5

This wad is now the sole reason to own Hexen.

Really good wad. I liked the puzzles, the gameplay was pretty difficult but overall fun. The rpg system was overly simplistic, but not bad. The weapons were functional, but the sprites could use a bit of polishing. Gold wasn't an issue. Very long wad, but also very fun. Overall a really solid and fun experience. 5/5

The above clearly hasn't played it all the way through, how can the stock Hexen maps possibly look better than these? And as for dying in Map03...this is Hexen with altered gameplay, so how can you expect to be as good as you are when playing Doom 2? Anyway, this gets 5/5 for being an interesting and challenging mapset, even though it is a bit dull at the start.

Good concept, but map design is abysmal in some places. Those trees at the east shore look like a joke and the sky city must be the lamest thing I've ever played... still worth checking out IMO 3/5

A very impressive and immersive accomplishment, but plagued by too many unclear areas and slowdowns to be a real masterpiece. This IS the Daedalus of Hexen.

Cool idea and I appreciate the work that went into this, it's just, well, boring and ugly to be honest.

In all honesty, as much as I appreciate the effort put into this, I'm sorry to say that this bored me. :( The gameplay does nothing for me here, it's cumbersome and tedious... and the visuals really felt uninspired, it feels as if the only thing that drives this wad is the scripting. I hate to say that both level design and gameplay are more important than scripting. And wow, what's up with the fps man? Those volcanoes are a nightmare. Thanks for the effort though.

Scripting:5/5 Gameplay:1/5 Graphics:1/5 Overall:2/5 The concept is good. The scripting is well done. That's about I can say in it's favor. The maps look WORSE than the stock Hexen maps, despite using GZDoom. The gameplay is slow and clunky. The lag from GZDoom makes it damn near unplayable. (I do UV runs of HR and AV, I shouldn't be dying to MELEE monsters in map THREE!) With some more polish, it could be really great. Until then, it's bad.

Scourge of Viscerous makes Serpent Resurrection look like Serpent Resurrection. Not getting any higher than 0 because this wad has no redeeming qualities. Enjoy your Christmas. 0/5

I'm torn about what to give this...the scripting is very impressive, but the design and gameplay are pretty lackluster for the most part. I will recommend it just for the really cool scripts, but that may not be enough to keep people going. 3/5

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
