About This File

You know Doom, it is always the same, get some weapons, infiltrate the destroyed UAC base or demon hive, kill all the monsters and hellspawn and find the exit switch. This was Doom... until now: Stronghold is a mixture of Unreal Tournament's Assault mode and Skulltag's Invasion mode. Defend your Stronghold against hundreds of monsters, divided into several waves. Earn points, get rewards between waves and let no single enemy pass!

30 or so dull-to-play, bland-to-look-at, color-by-numbers Tormentor techbases, plus a couple of worthwhile maps by some other guys. It's a pity the few good levels are buried in piles of boring identical filler.

Simply amazing. Another incredible project from Tormentor667. The fact that this is free to download is so awesome. 5/5.

singleplayer is possible w/ some editing of frncoop3.zip. Beating every map is possible (you just need to worry about lives), but this method renders most shops as useless and bores out the gameplay. That removes the essential part of the wad into a tug-and-pull competition. I play this on zdoom; huge slowdown in intermission, but most maps are fair in speed and design. 3/5

You know torm maps, it is always the same. retarded gimmicks, shit level design, uninspired gameplay, and hyper detail that still manages to look ugly. This was Torm maps... until now. Now the uninspired gameplay has been replaced by repetitive and uninspired gameplay. oh yeah and more retarded gimmicks.

You know t667, it is always the same, get some crappy weapon fx updates, infiltrate a console-filled wall base or quake-rock cave, kill the entire realm667 bestiary and find the ending cutscene. This was t667... until now: Stronghold is a mixture of Sapphire and Skulltag's Invasion mode. Defend your stronghold against hundreds of blood demons and shadows, divided into thousands of waves. Earn irritation, get bland powerups between games and let absolutely no enemy pass an ambiguous spot on the map!

The production values are high, but what is lacking is this wad's soul. It's a waste to put so much time and effort on something that has such a weak gameplay aspect.

Just epic, I love this wad like I'd love my girlfriend if I had one. The only thing I hate about it are the Overmind missions, they're literally impossible in singleplayer. Other than that, this wad is pure greatness. Thank you, Torm. 5/5

Lose the shitty architecture in most maps and implement some more dynamic gameplay, and you'd have yourself a pretty good wad here! But I actually had some fun, so 4/5.

The maps are kinda cool, the music is good, and some of the advertisements in the base are funny. But the ripped Warhammer 40K artwork, hilarious intro voice acting and the imbalanced difficulty on UV is detrimental to an otherwise average experience. Which is Tormentor going to get back to some normal mapping?

To the guy who wrote a review involving replacing certain words from the text file's description: You must have thought t667 was a very good author. I bet you must have liked the realm667 beastiary as well. You're favorite wads must have been Sapphire, Torment and Torture series, Austerity, and Stronghold. You must like t667 alot! Other than that the wad is cool. 4/5

Stronghold is no doubt one of the best Skulltag invasion mods there are and ever will be. I wish I was one person working on this... :(

some of the maps and modes are alright, but this isn't really as replayable as I'd hoped. there's like 0 servers out now :( I mean, there was actually ONE server around on doom's 18th birthday, but it was misconfigured and playing on regular doom maps.. I guess the intended audience must love it though if it has like 4 stars, they must really like it in single player or something. 2/5 -anonymous

Pretty cool. Admittedly the gameplay is lacking, but clearly a lot of solid effort went into this and anybody giving this a score as low as 0/5 just has a stick up their ass about ZDoom WADs. As is a common strain with Tormentor's maps, it's a lot of great ideas and implementation around some unfortunately mediocre gameplay. 3/5

I'm not a huge fan of "Torm" but: the beastiary. Helpful articles for nubs on his site. And I'm sure other prolific members of the community wouldn't accept his lead if he wouldn't be up to it. Just a few points, negativity hasn't helped anyone ever.

Although it uses bestiary monsters, and not-so original weapons, the game-play puts an interesting twist on your usual invasion map, however, I think there are quite a few maps too many, and with how small most of the maps are, it makes me wonder if torm was looking at quantity more than quality...still, overall, it's at least decent. 3/5

The map design is great, and the new content really freshens it up, but the gameplay shortly becomes quite repetitive and tedious. Also, the lives in multiplayer mode is a disaster. Otherwise, pretty good project. 'although it uses beastiery monsters' - stop trolling, custom monsters don't make a mapset bad, it's projects that use the realm667 resources as a 'make your own mod' that are bad.

Just how I knew it would be. Awesome architecture. Awesome amount of effort. Stellar concept. The caco's last year even said this was an example of where detail does NOT ruin gameplay. That may be true, but then again you can't really ruin gameplay that's weak/mediocre in the first place. I'll be dissapointed if this gets a cacoward. It especially hurts that this came nary a month after Serpent Resurrection, a similar case of an over-innovated project. (And I actually liked KDiZD.)

The problem with this wad is that there was too much effort wasted on special effects and not enough thought about gameplay. With that, I'm going to have to give this wad a 0 as there was very little gameplay.

Probably some of the most unplayable stuff out there. It's also mind blowingly redundant. 1/5.

Mildly interested until I realized I was doing the same thing over and over again. Got old really fast. Effort - fine. Execution - lame. Meh.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.

What the actual f*ck is this map. I love having 4 rockets, a shit ton of bullets and like 10 shotgun shells to take out a revenant, and whatever was in that cage. Doesn't look too bad, maybe this negativity is cus im no expert, also rather unskilled at the game?
