Valhalla is a dark industrial techbase level that almost immediately sucked me in with its bleak atmosphere and amazing ambient music. Gameplay wise this level isn't too complex with its rather simple monster encounters that in a few spots provided a fair challenge for me on Ultra Violence. My only issues with Valhalla is that there are a few spots where the detailing can impede movement and cause pressing a necessary switch to be awkward.

This feels like the first level to a really awesome Q2 or Sin-era game. It is really gorgeous. The combat is somewhat conservative and often easy to keep at a safe distance. Some of the routing is a tad tricky but nowhere near the Eternal Doom end of the spectrum.

In terms of gameplay, level wise: The levels are complex, but they never get too convoluted. Once you figure out where the various key-switches are it simply becomes a matter of remembering how to get there. In terms of gameplay, enemy wise: Enjoy being fucked in the asshole with a porcupine. In conclusion, if you like well made maps that you'll probably never get to see legitimately cause you never survive that long, this is the wad for you.

Okay, this looks like an earlier version of Putrefier, and they really doesn't alter that much - same map layout, poor monster fighting, though this version doesn't have bad map navigation, so overall I'll rate this higher than Putrefier

Clearly Ed Cripps put a lot of effort into this level but there are some issues. A big plus is that there is a decent weapon provided from the start so there is no tedious monster tickling that is very common in other wads. Also it provides a lot of murder opportunities (a plus too). Unfortunately the layout can be confusing at times (but sometimes monsters point you at the right direction) and the switches are so tiny. Then it ends abruptly. It deserves 3.5 but I round it down to 3. - Zalewa.

Pretty good, but it has a lot of door hunting and stuff like that. Great deco, bland gameplay, and boring level design. Kept me busy at least. 3.5/5

One of the best Zdoom maps I've ever played. Beautiful architecture, very detailed and had one hell of an atmosphere. The only downside, was a little too easy, even on UV. Definitely want to see more maps from you. Keep up the awesome work. 5/5 from me.

Simply an amazing level, with great texturing and great lighting. the The only disappointing thing about it was the length, and the difficulty. It was way to easy (due to the presence of almost every weapon), and somewhat short. It was definitely worth playing through. I hope that you continue to make maps, because this is awesome.

Great level! Good detailing and atmosphere, and I like the music and ruined city in the background. It's fairly linear, but it doesn't feel forced. The monsters are well placed and make for good fights in the space. Best new level I've played in a while.-GreazyShorts

A very interesting and atmosphering map. Gameplay was a bit bland, I was disappointed at the lack of a final boss. It kept me interested for a while and it was quite enjoyable, but there's still something I found nit-picky about this. Nevertheless, this should'nt be skipped. 4/5 - Moti

Looks awesome, yet it is not the only thing that make a level awesome. The gameplay is slow(er), not very exciting and pretty easy. 4/5.

Visually perfect, this method lacks durability and surprises. + The graphics are gorgeous + The atmosphere is great + The level is well built - THE level - No true final boss - Nothing very exciting in the progression, the rhythm is always the same 4/5*

Nice level, but a little confusing in the manor of KDIZD, and no really inspiring moments.

As previous reviewers have stated, visually, this is a stunning level with fairly good game-play. My only gripe - although this will not detract from the overall score - is; one Ravenant does not tele-port in and thus 100% kills is not possible (UV -fast). Keep 'em comin' Ed! 5/5

Very nice. More ZDoom maps should be like this only perhaps a bit harder. Go play Raven Crypt Zalewa.

Wow, detail unlike any other wad and perfect game dynamics (perfect health/difficulty/mo nster placement). If you like detail, you will enjoy every *second* of this wad. First 5/5 I've given in years.

Design wise, this is simply a masterpiece. Gameplay wise it is also brilliant. I have no complaints at all, it's that good. A must play level. -TRRobin.

Very nice, good-looking architecture. Gameplay @ UV is not too difficult, monster placement is balanced. Parts of the level are imo a little bit too dark, this combined with invisible monsters is not original anymore nowadays. The end is disappointing because of a missing final fight. Music is well choosen. Overall: solid 4/5, so absolutely worth a try.

A decent (if slightly dated) set of maps with a moderate level of difficulty for the majority of it. I played it twice recently on UV, both runs played continually. Both saw me enjoying a good portion of the wad, but on each run I left the experience irritated. I feel Map 26 is the true end to the wad, as Maps 27 through 29 are extremely drab, boring slogs that fail to continue the intensity introduced with Maps 25 and 26. Map 30's Icon of Sin fight is also tedious and a poor way to end things, essentially requiring SR50 for the first elevator. Had it not been for these issues (and an excruciatingly sluggish Map 20, but slightly less so on my second playthrough), I would have given the wad four stars. It's easy to see why this was seminal at one point in time, but wads in more recent years have far surpassed it in not only map complexity, but enemy diversity and overall map/wad pacing, among other things. It's most certainly not the greatest megawad ever made, but it's still worth playing.

Visually there is a ton of attention to detail which is always a treat to look at, and the actual map designs of the first four episodes are very well done. I enjoy the "new" monsters and some of the upgraded weapons, it definitely makes certain parts of it feel fresh compared to the typical wad. The challenge on UV was just right for me with few if any parts being too overwhelming. Overall it gets a 4/5 from me because I wasn't a big fan of the fifth episode set of maps, both thematically and gameplay-wise. Ammo starvation was real there in those last few maps which isn't a lot of fun to me, not to mention its too drastic of a change compared to how the rest of the wad plays. Also, thematically I feel like these end-game maps would have made a bigger splash as mid-game maps, not finale maps. Great idea with the final boss mix-up though, I enjoyed that. I do still prefer Ancient Aliens as a whole (a wad that I feel is much better balanced overall and is more interesting of an experience), but Valiant still comes highly recommended from me.

I agree with BChricton78. Rather than being fun to play, this remake just highlights how massive of a difference good lightning and texturing makes to a level/game. I know this isn't the fault of the makers of this mod since they were merely remaking the original Doom 64 levels, but these levels frankly aren't very great when stripped of the improved Doom 64 graphics. So much in fact that it makes me wonder how important level layouts even are compared to other aspects of the visual presentation such as texturing, lightning and rendering.

Good stuff.  Only giving it four stars because though the new music was good, I just wish there was more of it.  Still, this wad is absolutely worth your time.

Umm... From the brief snippet I played, I'd definitely give them an A for effort... But this just feels... wrong to me. I'm sorry but playing Doom 64, without the lighting, atmosphere, redone sprites and ambient music? No thanks. It just takes away the things that make Doom 64 so special. Still a nice little attempt at recapturing Doom 64, but I'm better off with Doom 64 EX, for my fix.
