About This File

A 21st century DooM 2 episode that is big, innovative, good-looking, and of course, HARD! This wad features desert and mountain levels, and there are plenty of levels beside the sea. There are also city levels and hi-tech levels. But - every style is represented here, even if it is only 1 level! (except the Spirit-World style)

For those of you who like secrets, there are at least 3 in each level (except 25-27 and 29-32 where there are none). And you'll be pleased to know that the secret levels are VERY well hidden........

This episode combines the speed and fast-paced action that makes DooM so special with the realistic world-like adventure of newer games like Quake 2 and Half-Life.

Still a very nice mapset, MAP32 really a masterpiece but too hard!xD Some later maps get boring easily because maze-style or long way to go needed. But this mapset still nice for playing(with a lot of time) and fun. And I hope you do updating your SSD mod. :p 4/5 -playerlin

even to this day Fragport remains a favorite every time I play it, and the odd part is whenever I mention great wads, I for some reason always leave it out. it's so good but it's so easily forgotten. but why? think about organization. that's why I love it. you've got locations that are very well-organized and bits and pieces of realism in every locale, especially in city locations. the desert prison has all the accommodations of a prison, the towns have buildings which are all varied, the ship is organized so that all of its amenities are fulfilled, even the lesser realistic levels like the volcano map and the actual hell level MAP24 have decent organization and you can go on and on. battles tend to be on the slow side, but they don't deter that far to be terrible in any way. the cohesion and the realism, as well as the organized locales that i went to, makes this deserving of five stars. not to forget the gameplay of course, which is consistent and fun.

Somehow these underdetailed and oversized levels
seem to be pretty popular in the Doom community...
One man shouldn't be doing a 32-level megawad all
by himself.

From now on I am giving every wad here 5 stars no matter how awful they may be. I just tried to build a couple of rooms with a door and it took me what seemed - FOREVER. There are many hours of resources in this database. If I don't like a wad, I simply won't play it. But I won't be complaining!

Quite a bit oversized and lacking in detail overall. It has pretty good fun factor though, worth the playthrough.

Mr. Clark, this wad is ugly as can be, but it is the most entertaining vanilla WAD I have ever played. Five stars.

The designs are average; so is the architecture, but I am giving it 4/5 anyway. Why? Because it is fun.

Focusses on good gameplay and continuity, so the levels themselves are clearly a bit simplistic (except for the usage of buildings and towns). But it is still worth the d/l, and will provide some enjoyment..

Not sure how I missed this megawad, but it's a great balance of game play and story/theme. Like other reviewers have said, sure, it's not crammed with detail, but the layouts serve as nice backdrops for some great fighting and the lack of intricate minutiae never takes away from the fun. Really a rocking levelset.-GreaZyShor ts

Very low detail, however gameplay was not all that bad. I don't understand why a person would really need a sorce port. No detail to look at so I doubt a person would get a overflow. I did have some fun this so I say not to bad. 7/10/07

This is simply one of the best megawads ever made. The levels combine smoothly, the Gameplay is great, and the storyline is awesome! I still can't believe that one man did this. Then again, it WAS The Ultimate Doomer, so...

How is this "bizarre"? Seems quite righteous to me. The levels flow well and are fun to boot. A helluva blast on co-op as well, so nyah. 5 by default - Xaser

Xaser, the levels flow well bacause they ACTUALLY flow, just like he always puts the start of the next level at the end of the provious level. That is something obvious and easy, yet hardly anybody does that to this day!

Really good puzzle map in a big dark metal/stone building. It catches the atmosphere of Bob Evans' Eternal Doom stuff, and I think there are even some homages to some other Eternal Doom maps as well (for example, the big two-layered outdoor area looks a bit like the "amusement park" in MAP26).   In my experience the puzzles were a bit easier than in "Silures" or "Excalibur", but it's possible that having played a lot of puzzle map stuff since I played Eternal Doom, having played through the whole canon of Bob Evans and Jim Flynn, and liking to search for Doom secrets in every map has made me recognize certain tropes better. The puzzles I liked most were (the spoilers only give minor hints):
Gameplay is good too, at the start ammo is scarce so the chainsaw and berserk are your friend, and midtiers say hello from the start on, but hitscanners are the biggest threat. Rockets should be saved for archviles until you find the first larger cache.   9,5/10

Fun, challenging set of maps that looks much better than you might expect for the time it was made. These maps will still slap you around a bit on HMP if you're not staying sharp. The author is fond of Chaingunner ambushes which keep you on your toes. I didn't find the SSG until around MAP05, which was cool, I like when its not given out too early. Pistol-starting the last two maps is pretty tough, but doable.   The map designs do a really good job of letting the player see crucial areas from different angles through progression and the layouts are really tidy overall, and feel a bit more modern than a lot of other 94/95 maps I've played. There are some really nice large-scale vistas (like the start of MAP06), nice uses of verticality and a good mixture of tight and more open combat.   Recommended!

Spectacular visuals and engaging combat make this an absolute must play. There's a puzzle with a "Shoot the thing" answer that kind of comes out of left field and can be an easy place to get stuck if you're not on your toes, but that hardly stops the map from being a thrilling masterpiece.

E3M9's refrain of back-tracking to a church for keys is a little tedious, and there are a few moments where things can become a frustrating key/switch hunt as you figure out what to do next, but aside from that, this an intense and rewarding adventure with beautiful lighting and architecture.
