Doesn't work with Project Brutality 3.0.

Mod Edit: Not actually a sound reason for a 1 star review.

Definitely some of the best atmosphere I've seen in a Doom Wad, few mappers can splurge on detail like Tormentor and back it up with challenging and fun gameplay.

The mod takes heavy inspiration from the Survival horror genre. As a result ammo can be hard to come by, I was playing on the normal difficulty so I only started running low on ammo near the end of the map. Fortunately picking up a speedloader gives you 20 rounds and Tommy gun wielding cultists have a habit of dropping drum mags that give you 50 rounds to use on either the Thompson or the revolver. Don't ask me how that's supposed to work.

The reused blood assets were also adjusted to be more scary and less comedic. The cultists iconic voiceline's where pitched down slightly and they can now take a lot more punishment before buying the farm. The Axe wielding Zombie's are a lot taller that they were on the build engine and the Bloated Butchers projectiles now home in on the player, That coupled with the slower movement makes them a formidable foe.

Spoiler

Perhaps this map's most famous addition in the siren, while playing you will periodically hear a siren go off. When you hear it you must run to the nearest Moon shelter or face death at the hands of the insanely overpowered ghost's that spawn in. Fortunately the first time this event is triggered you are automatically transported to the shelter in the town square. The location's of the Shelter's are also marked on your AutoMap.

It took me about and hour and a half to complete this WAD.

I would highly recommend City of the Damned: Apocalypse to any fan of Doom, Blood or Survival horror.

A genuinely scary, atmospheric mod. The story may be cheesy but the mood is excellent, and the level is short enough not to wear out its welcome. Combat is difficult enough that each encounter is an unnerving drain on resources, although ammo starts getting more plentiful towards the end of the level.

Spoiler

The siren mechanic is a great idea, very nerve-wrecking whenever it happens.

About my only complaint is that you're often left without an inkling where to go, since doing something in one area may reveal a pathway or a hotspot in another area without any indication. Also,

Spoiler

the final boss is somewhat underwhelming; it would be interesting if it was faster and tougher, and you had to dodge him throughout the entire city.

Excellent map, but the ammo is scarce, is the unique problem, another i dont see

the final boss!!!, i love it, the theme and he himself make me create some years ago a powerful boss, the dark lord of my wad of monsters

is great, but hard

What a shame. The atmosphere and visuals of this wad are very well-done and are perfect for me, a big fan of the game Blood. But unfortunately the actual gameplay is a huge letdown. It's just not fun. You're given so little ammo that even if you begin with perfect aim, you'll undoubtedly run out and be faced with hitscan cultists and zero ammo. So you need to use the pitchfork on the poisonous enemies in the beginning (unfun) to have a chance against the cultists later on. This sums up the entirety of the mod's progression. You need to take EXACTLY the right path and make EXACTLY the right moves or you will be fucked. Which is really stupid since the city is so non-linear. It's punishing players for exploring. Just started exploring the city and feel like checking out this warehouse? Nope, here's two mini-bosses you couldn't possibly defeat at this point! How fun. And also due to this non-linearity, one is liable to get lost, trying to find the way to progress or remember exactly where to backtrack to.

Some would say "it's supposed to be ammo-starved & punishing like Blood". Well really only the first few levels of Blood are ammo-starved, for most of the game you are given a reasonable amount of ammunition. Which is good, because running past enemies like a headless chicken or making painstaking effort to melee them is not fun.

This was really, really good. My only complaint was that there wasn't more! I honestly think a lot of people who downrate this are simply too stupid to appreciate it, which is a shame. The level progression was never cryptic in any way for me and I never got stuck wondering where to go next because it was pretty obvious. Great job Tormentor667. 5/5 Legendary.

4.5 Perfect! Only minus is the lack of hints.. I mean the nodes are good, but still stuck for 3 hours... Loved it!

@^: being offensive is childish. Besides that, calling a map good because of a lack of weaponry, is silly. On-topic: yet another form-over-content map with 4.5* for the excellent ambiance and 1.5* for the gameplay which mostly consists of endless walking around not knowing where to go and what to do, making 3* overall. IOW: brave attempt, but failed. Because U know, DooM is all about gameplay, for ambiance alone I'll go to a museum or so.

Someone said you needed cheats to beat this, and that there wasn't enough ammo. That's the point, you idiot. There's not supposed to be a plethora of ammo. You're a damn moron

A great horror WAD, also look like a custom tribute to Monolith's game, Blood. Those black dogs SCARED ME!!! Although after the first half of the map I lost, this is a very good WAD! The usual Tormentor667 quality. 5/5 - Katamori

Brillant Alone in the dark atmosphere and Blood appearance in a Doom engine. Great Work. Only bad fps in the fog. 4.9/5. More like this

Very good atmosphere, and very hard gameplay, especially until you manage to find and grab the shotgun and armor. There is some initial pointless wandering until you set the right scripts off, but gets better afterwards. There must be a bug with the railroad station puzzle though, as I killed the monsters before entering it and now nothing happens, so I'm stuck before getting the eye key. Well duh, I'll have to replay I guess. 5/5 -Maes.

Great stuff. Especially the 2009 ME edition. Be sure to keep looking around though - even in places you think you've already cleared out - as helpful or even necessary items can suddenly appear in them.

I do like that it has real suspense. What I don't like is that damn siren. Oh wow, I'm a hundred miles away from a moon room trying to actually make progress in this level, and the siren goes off. The siren detracts from the flow of gameplay.

One of Tormentor's best wads. You can really see him growing as an author, and I think this had really good gameplay to date. Though Tormentor does like to raise the stakes when it comes to gameplay so it's not so surprising that some (lazier) doomers find the challenges a bit much. But this is hell after all, isn't it? A very impressive piece.

All of those annoyed by the tight ammo balance and the differing gameplay: This is not supposed to be Doom, it's supposed to be different so do not play this in Doom style, spare your ammo, move slowly and be on your toes, just like in Resident Evil! I loved it, 5/5!

IMO this one map is far better Blood tribute TC than all of ZBlood. Nuff said.

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this is a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
