About This File

A map I finally finished after starting it a year ago and leaving it untouched until about 2 weeks ago. Theme and basic layout inspired by Map 05 of No Rest For the Living, Vivisection: http://doom.wikia.com/wiki/MAP05:_Vivisection_%28No_Rest_for_the_Living%29

Focus was a somewhat nonlinear level with tight combat and above-average diffuculty.

Runs in vanilla/chocolate doom, tested primarily in zDoom.

The definition of "nostrum" doesn't really fit the map or anything, I just think it's a cool sounding word.

This is dated June 2011. You fight about 150 baddies in a kind of Ikea castle. It's modest, but good fun, mostly trap-based, look oddly reminded me of Quake II at points. Suffers from a problem whereby you can mostly just run out of the traps, e.g. an elaborate final battle that takes place in an arena you're free to leave. Mind you, not every map has to be a torture hell-slog, and this is entertaining as light relief.

I wanted a decent map I could burn through quickly. I found this serviceable. -Creaphis

Really hard in the last battle, 4 archviles in UV...DAMN, I always got my ass kicked, after I beat them with a lot of death and run out of ammo, I feel it's cool... Nice fun map I think. 4/5 -playerlin

Decent level, but it's one of those that make me sit back and think "what does this represent? who built this structure, and why?". Once you're looking for something beyond "a video game level", something that's actually immersive, it fails to deliver. Nevertheless, it plays well, so 3/5. - ZZ

Good Nerve-styled map. There was some difficulty but I took it easy, creating some infighting as I went, and manged to pull through in one go in like 25 minutes. [3/5] ~Chain Mail (05/2012)

^Comment above makes a invalid statement. The reason you are free to leave the arena is because of the four Arch Viles. You really think you can beat four Arch Viles with no cover? Anyway this is a good map. I'm a fan of Vivisection and this reminded me of it one way or another. Difficult is all right. UV-maxed the map in like eight minutes. 4/5

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
