This is an excellent wad and I like it. The maps are well designed and fun to play.

What I didn't like is seeing some people rating it low, If you read these people reviews you'll see that they're mostly noobs complaining about how hard it is to play, Anyone finds any wad hard to play should lower the difficulty level to something they can beat instead of just get frustrated and jump into the forum and  post negative reviews, At least respect the efforts and valuable time the designer put to create this fantastic wad.

The author release a 10th anniversary edition with some changes, named Doom Core Delta, but i didn't play that because i can't review it right now.

So, instead, i give it a try to the original version. But i cheated a little as i grabbed the new status bar and the dehacked patched and load em to play the old version. Sorry, @valkiriforce, but i feel it incomplete without them.

Pretty solid mapset, i might say.
Most maps are really good.
There are some really good and short maps, some neat medium, and some fantastic huge maps (map19: Mountain Fortress is marvelous!!!). I had a really good time playing this megawad.

Its not 5 stars because it uses mandatory secrets to complete the maps... making it somewhat difficult to understand the map progress.

Aside from that, the mapset is a total blast!!!
Neat encounters, really good architecture and layouts. And with a good flow, too.

The best thing that i found in this mapset is the different ending depending the difficult setting. Really really, smart move, and interesting detail for replayers like me.

So yes, i ended the megawad two times in a row in HNTR and UV respectivelly to see the different ending.

Last map on UV is somewhat unfair as monsters keep on getting on the way of the rockets, and if you don't have ny BFG ammo, its a big nope.

Thanks, Valkiriforece for this really good vanilla mapset.

Its certainly fantastic, so ignore the haters i had read below.

This mapset is really a blast!!!
And if the author already fixed some of the issues i pointed, hope he did, Doom Core Delta surely is one of the best vanilla mapsets out there for me.
I will take it a bite when the review page is ready.

I've updated my review accordingly after played the most recent Doom Core version , the delta one that's available here =

https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/megawads/dcdelta

So, it's a very good megawad and it shows that valkiriforce knows very much how to make well designed and beautiful maps as well as balanced gameplay in UV. My favorite maps of the set = 03, 32, 16, 19, 24 and 29. The other maps are also good but not memorable as these ones I've listed. I'll replay this megawad for sure! Nice work valkiriforce!

There can be the most boring room in a Valkiriforce level, totally dull, and still it will please the heck out of me.

Put as much creativity into the review as the author did into the map design: this is an idiot wad for 12yo idiots. When revenants and pain elementals get thrown at you on map one, coupled with dull shoebox design, it goes straight in my trash bin where it belongs.

most of the map are maze, the gameplay is not so old school as people say, you're quickly bored of playing because of being lost in the level.like reverie, this is pure crap.valkiriforce stop mapping and players avoid this big shit.0/5

I don't know why some people give this WAD crap. It's not the best wad that's for sure, but it's still great and it needs to get more love.

Pretty good overall I'd say. Got an odd sense of Deja-vu when I got to the REJECTS maps, but thats what I get for not listening to valkiriforce I guess! An interesting mix of map sizes and styles that makes for quite a complete Dooming experience. 5* -Phobus

Great job. Had a lot of fun times playing this and a lot of the maps (for me) seemed to have a nice nostalgic Doom 2 / Final Doom feel to them. Looking forward to Reverie. dwrTag

The maps are fun and simple, very reminiscent of the good old days. Unfortunately a few maps are sub-par, and there are sometimes way too many chaingunners, bot overall an extremely awesome WAD straight out of '94. 4/5

Probably my favorite Megawad to come out this year. Personally, I like it even more than Reverie; I've always been a fan of experimental maps like this. 5/5 -Razen

one of the most stupid megawad, the try to make a non linear gameplay and fail shit.

Oldschool maps of varying qualities. A couple rather good ones, many more average, some a bit below. Nice enough for a time-killer overall.

Excellent megawad that has a few frustrating moments (chaingunners galore at some points) but still remains good fun to play. This is definitive proof that gameplay should always come ahead of aesthetics when designing a wad. Michael's fast becoming a favorite mapper of mine -Snakes

This isn't a bad megawad by any means. The problem is, the author uses a constricted amount of textures. There is ALOT of metal textures going on in here and a same goes for dark areas where you can't see who or what is shooting at you. There are plenty of large areas much like TNT that really don't need to be that large. In terms of detail, the first map is as detailed as it can get. After that, the levels start feeling the same. Anyway, 4/5.

This map pack cements my opinion that Valkiriforce is a generally good, but rather inconsistent mapper. A lot of the material is quite enjoyable, and the fast-paced, moderately-sized maps are the best of the lot. However, the good is interspersed with some generally bad designing tricks like overuse of boss enemies, lots of ambushes you can't quickly react to and the odd overly long and complex level (map 19, specifically). Not a great megawad, but still worth playing for the high points.

Oops - Ty forgot to throw this in the megawads section. Oh well. Good oldschool set all the same.

Pretty damn good. Feels like an oldschool megawad. The only problem I had with it is that there seems to be an overabundance of items and health, making it a little too easy in some maps. Aside from that, I think it's worth checking out. 4/5

This WAD could have been great, but there are too many annoying levels that suck out much of the fun. 3/5 stars.

One of the classic megawads, and the successor to TNT Evilution. I've played this several times over the years, and its grown on me more with each play as my tastes mature.   Still has a bunch of maps that got me killed in 2024, after ive finished stuff like HR and AV, and plenty of maps are memorable. Only real downsides is some of the levels have little content, showing its age.

One of the earliest Doom user maps and It shows. Despite the raw and empty design, the author take a good use of 3D space creating a small fortress surrounded by mountains, the level Is fun to play and not hard. A fancy escapade and a piece of modding history.

Third and final released map of a WIP episode by David Rager, it's more long, complex and hard than the previous entries in the series. A well made map with pretty challenging parts with a mix of monster usage, envoirnmental hazards and some puzzle gameplay. Fun but pretty harsh.

Two more misplaced DM maps without a exit like QUDOOM (that at least had a exit room, while not functional) that caught me by their file name and leave me for the bad experience in SP. Chicken is just a long bridge between a thundering abyss where cyberdemons wants to destroy you, meh. Gangstar is a more fun map sets in a big, abstract warehouse where a cyberdemon roam free trying to kill you, shotgunners and lost souls are here in this Hell corner adding more pain to the thing, enforced by semi-hidden mazes, my favorite.

This is like the physical version of the "we have X at home" meme in DM map format for Quake E1M1. Very poorly made, broken exit and missing textures here and there but at least the level KINDA resembles the original source somehow.
