About This File

A multi-level project that replaces the first four missions of the game with my very own classic-style maps designed to look like a set of "lost levels" created by id Software's John Romero and crew way back in 1994.

too often we see a set that is basically an E1 replacement, with no real changes to anything besides "this is an episode 1 replacement with a style similar to the real deal except I made it" or something along the lines. this one is no different, although it really is only half of an episode. but is there anything eye-popping here? no. it's all average at the very best, definitely not any better than the real E1 although it does have some minor homages. but there's nothing that's gonna make this memorable. now, there was effort, but not a whole lot of it. this set really does look like something a newbie mapmaker would make in just a few days. what's also strange is how this one for some reason requires a ZDoom based port, although there's next to nothing ZDoom-y about it. it was intended to be a "lost episode" and while you can probably say that, is there anything here that is really good enough?

Cool mapset in DTWID style, unluckily E1M4 is all broken and unfinished for some reasons.

Cool and fun mapset btw.

not bad, but where is the boss fight? This set feels like not completed.

Way to derivative - to the point that it seems the author is copy pasting the source material. But to his credit, game play was fun easy and their were no noteworthy bugs to report. 3/5 -FoH

These maps look like there was no effort put into them. No effort at all. - 0/5 Zalewa

Imo gameplay (UV) does not really 'start' - iow: there is little tension. Visual style is ok, so overall 3/5.

Very nice, actually. Difficulty starts VERY low, but ramps up a bit, and so does the spartan detailing; the third and fourth levels are quite decent. All maps capture the E1 feeling well enough, too. All in all, it could still be better, and it could be longer, but I had fun playing this. 4/5 - ZZ

It's kinda nice oldschool stuff that brings memories. Some places that could be improved, yet some good ideas there. 3.5/5 - Optimus

Tried it on PrBoom+ 2.5.1.1 and it works fine up until e1m4. You're trapped in the beginning room because the door won't open. I tried shooting it, punching it, spammed use on the walls. Nothing. Other than that, it's meh. 2/5

Yawn. Mediocre maps in a very overcrowded genre - the E1-style. See Double Impact for a good example of how this type of map can actually be made interesting and attractive for modern Doomers. Gameplay here is weak and stereotyped. I've no idea why it is meant to require Zdoom (maps like these shouldn't), but I'm not inclined to spend time investigating.

I don't mind sticking to the basic style but, unfortunately this is too basic. Needs more action/non-linearity , at the least.

It's a nice job if we're talking 1994/1995 style, but this is not just that...too basic, too id style like it's nothing. Well, I won't be harsh but I think it's still needed more works or it's just a "better" 1994 mapset with "looks like id official maps but it's not". 3.5/5 -playerlin

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this is a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
