About This File

This mapset is a collection of six maps from four authors of the SkullTag forums.

The maps are re-creations of SLIGE maps, but do not use the original map lump in any way. They are complete- ly from scratch. The authors used them as inspiration, if you will. Emphasis was placed on enhancing the aesthetics and gameplay of the original SLIGE maps, but maintaining the layout of the map.

Mappers are: Impboy - MAP01 and MAP05 Dragonfly - MAP04 and MAP06 Daimon - MAP03 Jimmy - MAP02

Music From: Impboy Paul Corfiatis Jimmy91 Silentzorah Bobby Prince stewboy

I expected something bad or average but it was actually pretty damn good. - 5/5 Zalewa

It's actually pretty decent. People should remember that the reason pure SLIGE maps aren't allowed on /idgames is because crappy mappers would take credit for what SLIGE created. However, SLIGE maps still had an unmistakable stench that was thankfully glossed over a bit by this levelset's authors. 3.5/5

Hey, really nice work! I love the perfect usage of the DooM 2 stock textures! Gameplay is fun, too. 5/5

So, we have a bunch of mediocre mappers admitting that they're taking credit for what a certain random level generator (whose maps are banned from this very archive) made. How is it that it's the late 90s again?

I'm concerned about how Slige inspired every mapper to make linear doom maps.

^How about actually playing the maps first? Aside from Map01 they're not bad at all. :)

^How about realizing that "bad" is completely subjective? I agree - I think these maps are very mediocre.

The maps aren't too bad, but are rather characterless and forgettable. Also map06 is broken due to a Zdoomism. I'll therefore give it 2/5.

^A little too harsh for a rating but many thanks to point out the Zdoomism bug. I uploaded the fix today so it will work with the intended port. -Impboy

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
