About This File

A vanilla megawad for Doom 2 containing 32 short, chaotic and challenging maps. The wad's premise was to create at least one speedmap a day. There was no set time limit, times ranged from 1.5 to 3.5 hours. Don't let the word "speedmap" scare you off though! In the author's opinion, this wad contains many of his best maps to date.

It pains me to give this 3 instead of 4 stars, as the maps are fun, challenging, good-looking, and well-thought out.

...But here's the deal. This belongs in that "group" of wads were most of the challenge comes from three things, mancubi with little space to move, Revs with little space to move, and a tiny amount of ammo, especially when playing from pistol start (in UV at least). Secondly, each level feels like the one before it, both in terms of looks (lots of brown), as well as stracture/enemy placement = repetition.

Definately try it out, in hopes of it being your jug of beer.

If you're a HMP player then don't play this!, You'll find it hard and then write a bad review.

This is for dommers who like challenges, and I had lot of fun playing it. a lot of monster in

small maps, you'll fight monsters around each corner.

This wad was designed for speedruns so the ammo and health are not plenty, If it wasn't for that

I would have rated it 5.

Great non-slaughter hard WAD. Very clever monster placement.

A variety of fun and quick speedmaps, one of the best speedmap mapsets I've seen. The fights feel very well designed and choreographed, and can sometimes develop in different directions based on how you navigate through the level.

It does have a couple of downsides, though they are unfortunate side effects of the speedmapping procedure itself. The maps feel a bit shallow; there are essentially no secret areas, and little to explore. The ammo is very tight and makes getting 100% kills difficult on some maps. Also, two maps have game-stopping bugs due to nonfunctional teleporters.

0/5 stars if it were possible, the title of this megawad honors the horrible and boring/annoying this wad is.  Simply a wad for masochist people, abandoned after map09, never enjoyed it.

Done with these settings:

- Crispy Doom 4.2

- Hurt Me Plenty.

- Continuous combined with a pistol start mindset.

- Saves every 10 minutes or so.

Important note: this is indeed a vanilla megawad and you can use any compatible port, however, expect some bugs to happen with the wad itself.

This is a solid set of speedmaps, quite intense and fun. It consists of super short maps that can be completed in a few minutes, or seconds if you don't want to max them. There isn't a lot to talk about visuals, it uses the stock textures in a simple way, basically to ambient the maps for standard playability focused on action, no unique theme or episode progression. The text file mentions new graphics, but honestly I didn't pay attention to that. I could see it as a plus, given the little time I spent in the maps. If there's a comparison it would be the iwad's maps, visually speaking, if that sounds attractive to you. The soundtrack consists in iwad tracks mixed with some others not specified from where, or if they are custom, but they are alike the stock tracks.

Its main attraction is the fast-paced gameplay, as these maps will challenge your reactions and movement skills in constricted areas, some times forcing you squeeze through your enemies to find weapons (and a single place to breathe), or putting you in a situation you can't overthink what to do. I wasn't very hyped by this at first, not a huge fan of short and/or speedy maps, but as I was playing my mind totally changed. I'll say this, the maps aren't so hard on a casual play, monster placement isn't too demanding by itself, it's the slight existence of health/ammo available what makes them punishing. You basically have very little room for error, and any hit from anything can mean a restart. In addition, ammo is super tight, almost the strict minimum for a max. I should have to play them back on pistol start to confirm if they can all be maxed, but from my experience on continuous with my restrictions in some maps I felt forced to skip monsters (e.g. barons), thinking that I could kill them later, and then seeing the way back closed, particularly in map 20 that lacks a plasma rifle on HMP. There was a considerable number of instances where I was unable to complete the map without cheats: in map 18 there was a secret soulsphere easy to see on a tall ledge, due to the lack of an archvile on skill 3 it was impossible to reach it, besides a bunch of monsters that could never teleport out of their closets; in map 22, there's a double teleport pad in the room with 4 mancubi and others, it was impossible to use it, I also tested that part in other ports and complevels, no solutions; in map 27, there's a similar case of a teleport I wasn't able to use it, the one behind the blue skull bar. I'm not sure how others handled with these situations, I simply cheated and guided myself thanks to some videos. If there's a patch somewhere I don't know.

There's nothing important to talk about secrets, since most maps don't have any, I mean, there's no time or room to explore or you'll be murdered in a second, so the lack is logical. No favourite maps, as I liked them all in a similar way.

Overall, it's not for everyone, if any speedrunner haven't seen this yet, they should try it. Exploration fans might have to overlook this. Also, continuous doesn't make this much easier, trust me (start the next map with 21% health and tons of turrets everywhere was pretty intense). My rate is 8/10.

I personally hate the overusing about mulit-archviles and Cyberdemon in cramp areas, just unfair. So hard and challenging in UV, nice speedy shit at all. 4/5

Khorus should've released the final and (finally) bugfixed version of Base Ganymede instead of this stinky POS.

Great level design, lots of action, 32 quick maps that don't make you bored, what more can I say? It would be perfect if it has new textures or other new stuff but it's still awsome! 4/5- MarkAnthony

Good stuff. Don't let the title or average build time mislead you into thinking that this will be some sort of an ugly walkover; it actually looks quite good in that respect and some of the fights throughout are exceptionally harsh for their size, and will savagely kick you in the balls if you drop your guard for even a second. Unfortunately it ends on something of a weak note; MAP30 is a bit 'meh' overall, but still engaging.

Yeah, wads like this are always most speedrun friendly. Short maps --> Less time taken to finish them --> Generally not as frustrating to play without saves --> Tricks to make things even shorter are looked for quite deeply --> Generally more demos recorded altogether. 5/5

Over all completely sound in every way. Environments and colour schemes weren't all quite my cup of tea, but layout and texture use was great anyway. Gameplay was enjoyable. Very good if you prefer shorter, simpler-yet-still-co mplicated maps.

Very good. Like Scythe (I), in Khorus' style, with a higher but fair average monster count.

played through this a couple of times in Zdaemon's insanely challenging survival event, absolutely fell in love with the maps. :) Fantastic work to produce 30 interesting and not-so-linear maps in 26 days. Giving this 5* - an extra star earned for build time and that-to-quality ratio, and for the fun I had playing with like 30 players despite the text file saying it's not suited for coop play. Bravo Khorus!

This is good old classic speed-fuelled doomage. It's low on the detail, but high on the fun. Really recommended; very addictive! 5/5. -TRRobin.

Really good puzzle map in a big dark metal/stone building. It catches the atmosphere of Bob Evans' Eternal Doom stuff, and I think there are even some homages to some other Eternal Doom maps as well (for example, the big two-layered outdoor area looks a bit like the "amusement park" in MAP26).   In my experience the puzzles were a bit easier than in "Silures" or "Excalibur", but it's possible that having played a lot of puzzle map stuff since I played Eternal Doom, having played through the whole canon of Bob Evans and Jim Flynn, and liking to search for Doom secrets in every map has made me recognize certain tropes better. The puzzles I liked most were (the spoilers only give minor hints):
Gameplay is good too, at the start ammo is scarce so the chainsaw and berserk are your friend, and midtiers say hello from the start on, but hitscanners are the biggest threat. Rockets should be saved for archviles until you find the first larger cache.   9,5/10

Fun, challenging set of maps that looks much better than you might expect for the time it was made. These maps will still slap you around a bit on HMP if you're not staying sharp. The author is fond of Chaingunner ambushes which keep you on your toes. I didn't find the SSG until around MAP05, which was cool, I like when its not given out too early. Pistol-starting the last two maps is pretty tough, but doable.   The map designs do a really good job of letting the player see crucial areas from different angles through progression and the layouts are really tidy overall, and feel a bit more modern than a lot of other 94/95 maps I've played. There are some really nice large-scale vistas (like the start of MAP06), nice uses of verticality and a good mixture of tight and more open combat.   Recommended!

Spectacular visuals and engaging combat make this an absolute must play. There's a puzzle with a "Shoot the thing" answer that kind of comes out of left field and can be an easy place to get stuck if you're not on your toes, but that hardly stops the map from being a thrilling masterpiece.

E3M9's refrain of back-tracking to a church for keys is a little tedious, and there are a few moments where things can become a frustrating key/switch hunt as you figure out what to do next, but aside from that, this an intense and rewarding adventure with beautiful lighting and architecture.
