About This File

Started in 2009-ish, Coffee Break was intended to be another 32 map megawad. Unfortunately, due to a busy schedule, laziness, and other excuses, I didn't finish it. But I do have 11 maps, so there's that.

Submitted for your approval are 11 short maps designed to challenge all sorts of Doomers. All were made with lots of tender love and care, and with pistol starts in mind.

^Looks as if we have another voter who says something can't be better than average because of ONE map they don't like...

Well, for a runner-up in the Cacowards, it deserves it. It's not too bad on UV, and every fight is reasonable. The levels felt a tad bite repetitive at times, but they were all fairly good to make up for it. The best aspect of this WAD was the solid feel to it, where it DOES feel like a coffee break, where you can just relax. My only complaint was the cliff-hanger ending. 4/5 - K12

Hey, I have an idea, mappers go play Hell Ground, Ultimate Torment & Torture, and Unloved, and then tell me that this crappy wad is good. I HATE staring at the same textures as I did in '95 almost as much as I hate wads that don't give a shit about atmosphere. The gameplay is probably good, but I'll never know, because I lost interest in the very first room, IDCLEVEd the other levels and could tell that I wasn't going to be impressed here. 0/5 as this wad is useless to me.

Excellent mapset. Everything was very well balanced: ammo, health and monster placement was very good, there weren't any unfair traps, I managed to do all maps without dying (unless you count the forced death that happens at end of the wad). Design is superb. I have used AEOD to freshen things up but I didn't break the balance of maps. Shame there weren't more maps, I wish it was a full 32-maps megawad. Anyway I give 5* -AeodFanatic

At first, I thought the name meant the wad wasn't going to br good. But after playing it, I'm glad I was wrong. Let this be a lesson: NEVER judge a wad by its name, but rather its content.

^Either an idiot or someone who doesn't really like Doom anymore and ONLY likes highly sophisticated partial/total conversions for it. I liked Unloved enough, I definitely liked UTNT, and I loved Hell Ground (which does have some normal Plutonia type stuff in it BTW to go with the special maps), but that doesn't affect the score of this episode. It was never intended to be more than casual Dooming, and it accomplishes that quite well. 4.5(5)/5

Very nice set of maps with really good gameplay. Perhaps the only niggle is the fact that maps 07-11 have a very similar look which could get a little repetitive. But otherwise a great mapset, 5 stars -Cannonball

Fun level set, nice mix of battles and ammo. The architecture/design is sonewhat uninspired at times, other times great. Needs more secrets.

Very good maps with good flow and pace. I`m giving 4* because I`d prefer a few darker and tougher maps in the mix.

It's a shame it's only 11 maps long. This WAD gets it right on so many levels, I just wish it was a whole megawad.

150% secrets would be good, but absolutely five stars. Traditional Doom gameplay doesn't get any better than this!

I've only played the first half of the maps, but they are great so far. Just complex enough without being too messy, and the challenge is interesting without being frustrating. Pleasing to the eye with a slight sense of humour displayed. Boom features are used, so that's -complevel 9 in Prboom+.

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
