About This File

6 easy (for me anyway) levels intended to be played on UV from pistol start without saves. I didn't consider continuous playing while making this wad. The general theme is green/brown bricks and nature with some city and tech elements.

Essential easy Doom, supported by a beautiful sky, choice midis, and a serene green aesthetic. Has one of the best status bar replacements I've ever seen.

Too stingy with ammo and health to really be considered "easy". Map geometry is reasonably polished, but gameplay is mostly just running around shooting at hitscanners / imps / pinkies with the regular shotty. Inoffensive but forgettable.

Easy WAD on UV, except rather tight on health and ammo. Lots of hitscanners. Maps 01-02 are trivial in their difficulty, 03-04 are relatively easy, although I got lost on 04 for a bit. 05-06 are quite nice. Mostly good monster placement. Some very tight corridors.

If you play each map with a pistol start, things can get hard somtimes, because you are barely going to have ammo or health. Overall it was challenging.

I loved the textures and the layouts were creative.

it's pretty much average at the very best. nothing to it for the average player although resource starvation could be a problem in the first two maps.

Done with these settings:

- Crispy Doom 4.2

- Ultra-Violence.

- Continuous combined with pistol start mindset, and pistol starts.

- No saves.

Quick fun mapset. It's visually pleasing with some love for brown and green in city-esque structures, under a beautiful deep blue sky. Funny detailing too, which is appreciated for its old-school vibes, like many DoomCute trees, a boat from Alien Vendetta, a vending machine that gives free drinks, and more. Also, cool chill midis from the 90's era, or at least the majority.

Gameplay is rather simple but freewheeling, meaning that these maps can be played at any pace you want, with your typical incidental enemies awaiting for your arrival, and they generally appear individually or in small packs without much pressure applied to the player. It doesn't mean it's going to be an easy ride. To compensate the low monster counts (not over 100), Memfis restricted resources to make players respect their opposition, such as health and ammo are tight in the first couple maps, armor debuts later. This is a good sign that continuous won't precisely make your life easier, until the middle maps, so any form of gameplay works fine. Progression is linear, but space is generally reused to avoid long backtrack, which is a plus. As said above, combat is on iwad-level, a few sneaky hitscanners here and there, some ambushes than surprised me like the labyrinth in map 05, just old-school fun a la classic Doom II or Requiem, or any quality wad from the era.

There isn't much to say about secrets, although a couple will grant the player extra options to tackle monsters. I also don't have favourite maps, nor disliked ones, they're all lovely in the same way. Be aware that it's not possible to get 100% items in a couple maps due to some existing for decoration.

Overall, recommended to anyone looking for an excuse to play Doom at work, during breaks of course, or just a good half an hour at home. My rate is 9/10.

Old school and quite easy, but I enjoyed it. It is quite unique to see maps like this in 2013, but it was pleasure to play. 4/5 - Damned

Be 1 w/ nature, be 1 w/ death, lol. Use ancient japanese music for the authenticity. Don't forget the falling leaves and all that jazz. ~3/5

Kuchitsu is a rather casual WAD, with smart usages of monsters in fun, tight maps with a great nature/tech aesthetic. A great way to pass the time if you're bored and/or tired of the usual. 4/5

Too easy, but fun nonetheless. The music from classic Doom WADs help cement the light-hearted, adventurous feeling. We need more WADs with that sort of atmosphere.

Memfis has fast become a reliable source of small, fun maps with nice visuals and usually some additional touches (green key and some theming, in this case) that make the experience slightly unique. These 6 maps fight a war of attrition with your health and vaguely follow a theme, so you could pistol start like recommended, or play through continuously for a mild sense of journey and adventure. Intermission picture would benefit from less pallette raping, but otherwise this is a solid little package! 4*

Excellent mapset demonstrating that nice gameplay is not specifically a matter of map size, custom textures, extreme decoration and/or slaughtery gameplay, but of smart map layout and monster placement. Layouts and decorations look simple, but are very effective giving a sort-of Zen ambiance. Very relaxed. IOW: superbly done. Gameplay @ UV is not difficult, but given the ambiance pleasant. Overall: despite the easy gameplay: absolute not legendary, but solid 4/5, and IMHO Memfis' best work.

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this is a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
