About This File

This is one of the first few map I made for Doom 2 back in 2010. It's a medium sized, hellish themed map which shouldn't be too difficult to beat. This was originally supposed to be part of a PWAD that I am currently working on; but it isn't on par with my other maps anymore so I decided to scrap it and replace it with something else. I'm uploading it on here as a single level WAD and hopefully you guys like it.

An ok "Hell Castle" themed map, with a classic feel, and an obvious... beginner-that-shows-promise vibe. Its main issue is that its way too simple. From the enemy placement, to the traps, to the ambushes, there's nothing special to talk about here. The visuals are a great example. Nothing is wrong, but the use of red brick for 90% of the map makes it a forgetabble one, despite the otherwise decent atmosphere that the fits-like-a-glove MIDI manages to create.

^Haha, I literally face-palmed myself when I read this. The truth is that this was made when I only really used Zdoom for a source port (hence the sky trick) and lift with tag 0. I played this map in PRBOOM later and realized that I had to actually tag my lift to make it work with other ports; afterwards I went into Doombuilder and did exactly that. Looks like I missed one! Anyway, thanks for the feedback. After 3 years of mapping I've improved quite a bit so future WAD's shouldn't disappoint.

ROFL, I load the game, make two steps to the right and suddenly I'm stuck. That has to be a record. Aside from this and a couple of zdoomisms (sky trick in the outdoor area doesn't work in classic ports, also there is a lift with a zero tag (non-fatal)), it's a fine classic style map, the author definitely got the gameplay right with many fun fights and exciting traps. Looking forward to this guy's next wad.

I thought it was OK. I had fun playing it and that's what matters. It's good for a beginner too. 3/5. -TRRobin.

Since this is a recent upload (Jan 2013), why not fix those few little errors so the map can be played in PrBoom and other various ports? It's okay to re-upload the same file, as an update to your previous upload.

This is a fairly nice map with a very classic feel to it - it's hard to pin down, but something about it feels appropriately chaotic and demonic. I enjoyed playing it. 4/5 - ZZ

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this is a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
