Really good megawad.
Its has a lot of details and the maps are really good, imaginative and balanced.
The sense of progression is stellar as this megawad was conceived on the progressive fiction thread, with a really detailed backstory and a really good story to follow while playing.
The mapset has a really good climax at map29, but it is kinda ruined on map30.
So completing the megawad left me with a sense of unachievement.
The Story ends kind aon a cliffhanger, so it may imply a possible sequel.

Anyway, its a real joy to play, but a think that the contextual narrative could be taken even further.

On my reasearch while playing this megawad, i found that Hadephobia map31 has a lost song.
But thanks to the good old Xaser, it is available again for anyone on this thread:

Don't lose your chance of check it, its a really good piece of music that fits perfectly the mapset.

Thanks Purist and all the members that worked on this megawad.
I really enjoyed it.

Great mapset with some very neat detailing using mostly vanilla resources. At times the maps look really gorgeous and moody. Gameplay is on the easier side, which is just perfect for me. Generally I did enjoy the "real places" the maps depict, as well as the sense of story progression you get.

Great megawad. Most maps are balanced in UV and very fun to MAX. Unlike it was wrote in read me the maps after 24 aren't that hard if compared with mapsets of nowadays. Anyway, the best for me are = 04, 05, 10, 31, 32, 16, 19, 24 , 29. I found only 3 bad maps out of 35 = 06, 30 and 35. Definitely recommended!

I admit I only played up to map10 or so, but I couldn't find the motivation to continue playing. The maps are OK, but they all feel quite generic and none of them was particularly memorable.

I love story-based maps for DooM, and it sure plays well! Have so much fun on map1-15 and 31+32, but lose patient afterward and started do cheat...:p I don't care I feel annoying on some level's design/stupid battles, this should be 5/5 for sure. -playerlin

Pretty good wad tbh. The complementing story was a nice addition, although an editing pass would've been good to correct some errors, and the continuous nature between the maps made it feel like a single cohesive experience. Detailing was generally well done, with some impressive visuals using mostly vanilla resources. The gameplay is generally good but not particularly memorable or difficult, with TWO annoying IoS speedrun maps. 3/5

This is amazing, this is one of the best megawads ever made. A story-driven megawad with quality gameplay and healthy, fair challenge (for the most part). Beating this was the most genuine feeling of triumph that I have ever felt when playing Doom. You should play it, but be warned it's a hard son of a bitch on UV.

Great mapset! Excellent monster to health/weapons/ammo ratio, most fights were fair to me, I only died 2 times in whole megawad (in maps 1 and 15). I had no problems with whatever traps/monsters appeared in my way with exceptions of two above. I did bonus maps 33,34 and 35 as well, though I admit I used CHANGEMAP to not lose my inventory. I used AEOD to freshen things up, hope I didn't break the balance of maps. I give this wad 5*

It's okay, a bit mellow-dramatic w/ the story. Needs some wolfensteinss and bossbrain. Needs to be @ least funny or otherwise something to tell us to take a break. ~3/5

Not mindblowing but some nice stuff from lesser-known community authors, with some levels interminably cramped. The deadline was a boon in terms of making sure every map wasn't an overwrought Boom masterpiece. I wouldn't mind seeing a Hadephobia 2 where Doomguy rams his Ark ship into the demon armada.

Things went pretty good overall, but I do wish I made my Map 27 better. Thanks to Purist it didn't stink a lot, but hey. First map released in here is bound to have some sort of smell. Speaking of which, you have to hand it to Purist. He was fixing stuff right and left everywhere and he made this project much better than it was. We should do a second one now that we know what we should work on.

Most awesome megawad since a long time! I like the design and ideas of several levels. One common occurence that is bad though is several areas are too small/cramped and still tough fights inside. 4.5/5 - Optimus

Overall a not-extraordinary but decent megawad, worth it as a pastime. The story kind of fizzles TBH, but the continuous levels are still cool and you can fully play all of it ignoring the story if you want w/o any consequence, so I'll just ignore that aspect but continuous levels give it a bit of a boost still. My favorites are probably many of Purist's but definitely Map20 and Map29 are his two best; others would possibly be 10, 17, 18, and finally 25 for its excellent lava sequence.

Very solid map set with some very memorable moments. The maps range from average to excellent. Best maps are 10,17,18,20,25 and 29. No maps annoyed me too much. The music was reasonably well done but the story section sort of was hit and miss. Anyway this is well worth a punt. 4 stars

It's the only community mapset with a sense of continuity, it has good maps (that aren't ridiculously oversized or complicated either), and yet you say it's just okay? If you really think that, give a reason at least - come on!

Pretty darn good. Everything flows well, but some maps just look BAD. Then again, all community maps have to have a few stinkers now and again.

It's OK, but not great. I didn't care so much for the storyline (not much new there, really), and if you don't read it, the maps are actually just the same: not much new there, either. They look okay, and they play okay, but that's all. Granted, I only played to map 4 or 5, and maybe they get better - but if a WAD doesn't give me a reason to continue playing by then, I'm not inclined to spend more time on it. 3/5. - ZZ

Greatly exceeded expectations. While some maps have a rather crude appearance, the strength of this megawad is gameplay. This flows nicely and keeps the player busy, with some tight spots but nothing extremely hard. Recommend!

5.5/10   The problem with DTWID is that the same concept has been carried out by countless WADS already - they just didn't draw any direct comparison to the original DOOM. So what you get here is a set of competent-but-generic maps that follows the same beat-to-death techbase>hell progression of DOOM. Just like 10,000 other vanilla style megaWADs. In the end, that's all this is - a WAD that attempts to mimic (not always successfully, as there are some questionable maps here and there) OG DOOM. Without the awe that comes with experiencing the original game for the first time, you're left with a bunch of generic maps. The inspiration that ended up leading to the creation of this project causes the WAD itself to feel uninspiring. It lacks memorability and soul.

A pretty tough level with an unusual design. There's no exit; your goal is to defeat all monsters. Good luck.

Mostly a flat maze level full of illusionary effects. It's not a very complex structure overall, but pretty challenging. The exit is randomly hidden somewhere.

For a wad made in 1995 it's a pretty convincing church, I like how detailed it is, as well as the graveyard, too bad it is quite short because it's fun (Although I understand that, as a deathmatch level, making it too large can make it unfun to play). The exit gates are an awesome detail too. Definitely check it out 5/5 stars   - xX_Lol6_Xx

Upon the release of The Ultimate Midi Pack for Doom 1 that replaces all midi slots w/ original compositions, I thought to myself "Hell Yeah, now I have an excuse to play DTWiD!". Besides the shameless plug, I would recommend everyone to give that pack a listen and perhaps a spin w/ this wad b/c god damn does it go together like peanut butter and nutella.   Onto DTWiD: Well, the people behind this wad accomplished the goal of mimicking the style of John Romero, Sandy Petersen, and last but not least Tom Hall. Every level breathes like it was made by any of the three gentlemen, and god damn I had a blast w/ this one. While certainly not as hard as your Plutonia, Rowdy Rudy 1+2, Hell To Pay, or even Good Morning Phobos, it has its own moments where it doesn't pull its punches. However, one of my main gripes w/ this wad is that there's a lot of secrets to find if you're a completionist like I am, as some of them are a bit tricky to hunt down. The maps are way bigger than the OG John, Sandy, and Tom Hall levels, and while it's great to mesh some good fights here and there, it at times felt like a slog to go through b/c of the size of some of these maps. E1 was the weakest in terms of fights here, as expected that you won't be fighting anything tougher than hitscan, imps, and pinkies. While the design was great, I admittedly got lost a few times trying to get my bearings and know just where the hell I need to go. E2 was a bigger improvement upon E1, and had a few moments where it was spooky, like things are really beginning to hit the fan. E3 (which unironically in the OG UD was my least fav episode that I couldn't even bring myself to finish) was probably the best episode of the bunch, everything was oppressive and coming for you, luckily there was an abundance of ammo to help you out in messy situations, more traps and better set ups than what E2 had and a way better episode than E1. The secret levels of all 3 episodes are the highlight of the wad.   While I wouldn't say that this wad is a "must play" b/c over time I started to get a bit exhausted on the size of some of the levels and figuring out where I need to go, and especially since I binged E1, E2, and E3 3 days each respectively, I had my moments where I was like "Please God let this be over". Overall, I would say this is more of a wad that if you really wanna check out, go for it, or a good recommendation for people who are just beginning their journey of playing community wads and want something ez to play.
