About This File

Watched by towering monuments to the greatest of D'Sparil's disciples, the Valley of Saints is full of certain death to any heretic that dare enter. Never the less, it is your quest to reach the chapel at the summit of the cliff and destroy the evil within. Following an ancient cavern passage, you ready your wand and prepare to enter the valley.

There is a firemace, and it may appear early, late, or not at all. You'll have to adjust to your fortunes accordingly. If you find yourself low on ammo, remember your wand and bombs.

This WAD is tested to be fully vanilla compatible. When designing the layout, my guiding principle was that it should be possible to go through the level with multiple variant routes. I'd be interested in any speedruns or other vanilla demos you come up with.

well done Heretic level with decent pacing overall. as usual I like it when maps aren't cryptic in progression and this has none of that. plenty of decent combat moments and the secrets are also not tough to find.

Perfect old schoolish Heretic level. It feels like an adventure with an interesting layout that makes heavy use a of height variation in order to wrap around itself, there's secrets that unlock new areas... although exploration is on the forefront, the gameplay is fun and challenging as well. Overall, if you're a fan of the original series then this map is a must play.

A good map, even though I dislike Heretic very much.

PERFECT MAP IN EVERY WAY!!!! Perfect monster placement, monster closets open up when you fall down from ledges into previously visited areas... and most importantly, on 4th difficulty - ammo is actually sparse! Usually in Heretic there is much more ammo than you actually need. I await this author's next map: what a genius!

Played @ UV. Simple (beginners?) level with some good ideas, but average scenery & gameplay, so nothing special (and c'mon maulosiarch, 5/5 gives expectations which aren't there). 3/5. BTW Ammo @ UV is not sparse at all if one doesn't play like Rambo...

Mediocre megawad. There're many puzzles along the maps and the small monster count makes me wonder if it's a puzzle oriented wad instead of an action one. Anyway, not my cup of tea.

Again, an improvement over the last one (castle3.wad). Still some hallway-isms but this time they aren't a thousand miles long. Also, repeating the same "puzzle" more than once is never a great idea. But, it's quite playable and actually a little challenging in some spots. 2.6/5

A slight improvement over the quality of castle1.wad (I didn't play castle2 because it's already been reviewed.) The starting actually looks sorta cool, giving you a sense that this map might be better than the previous ones. But, it's only marginally better, with outrageously long hallways as the main annoyance. Combat exists but is still super easy, especially if you use the myriad artifacts in supply. The worst part was getting to the end of a massive hallway and finding out that I needed a green key, which would have been about two minutes of backtracking if I didn't use the turbo cheat. 2/5 would skip

Other than a few competent moments, this is quite passable... as in, pass it by to play a more exciting map. At best it's incredibly easy even on high difficulty levels, with pretty basic and usually ugly architecture, and at worst you get to navigate through a maze of single-linedef walls which of course don't block your shots. If there were anything other than melee golems around, it would have been even more annoying.

No, this is not a 5 star wad, not by a longshot. It is an acceptable time killer though and it's also marred by some teleporter confusion. It's small and the cyberdemon is pretty easy to get rid of, so as name suggests, don't panic.
