About This File

Gehenna was a fun project to work on. It was inspired mainly by KDIZD, and it shows. I had so much fun mapping for it. A lot of people believed I didn't quit making jokewads, but we finally settled that I'm not. I made this map incompatible with skulltag on purpose, because there are several 3D floors you need to see, and skulltag only has that on software mode, so play on zdoom if you want software rendering! Once I thought I was done with the map, I thought "What the hell, add more!", and people on the zdoom forums apparently like it, so I hope you like it too! So go play it!

I'm glad I downloaded this wad. It's fun and beautifully detailed. MatthewDoomer is a talented mapper, despite his reputation for pissing off a lot of people in the Doom community with his Terry Wads. 5/5

Probably one of the best levels I've ever played. If you don't download it because you think it's gonna be a bad WAD just because MatthewDoomer made it I feel sorry for you.

Not bad. Was totally skeptical and pessimistic about a former Terry-man making a "legit" wad, but you seem really serious about this, so I encourage you to go on. Oh, Skulltag's dead now, Zandronum has software 3D floors. I'd suggest brightening the starting rooms a bit, that darkness directly next to the outdoor light is strange.

Strange, I did have a deja-vu for almost any aspect of this map - to me it looks like author tried constructions he's found in other wads. Now learning is very OK. But he forgot aspects like architecture (nothing new), monster placement (horrible) & playability (UV: yawn), missing textures, too dark. So as-is: overall 2/5, but author has potential. BTW Matthew: please control your fanboys, 5/5 is utterly misleading for readers.

Excellent visuals and atmosphere here, and really great use of sloped floors. Packs a lot of ZDoom features into such a small map, but still doesn't feel too gimmicky. Gameplay isn't up to the same level though. Still fun and shows lots of promise for the future.

Excellent work. My only 2 complaints though is that this map seems to be a bit linear for my tastes, and its pretty damn dark... but aside from that, I liked the map design, and the new monsters. Keep it up and we'll let them terry wads off.

      It definitely makes Doom look darker, but also slightly changes colors (it reminds me PSX Doom). I prefer original Doom colors and miss how it looked on CRT (almost same colors as with modern monitors, but less brightness and maybe more contrast).

      I honestly can't believe that this whole megawad is 100% vanilla compatible and its only the first of THREE episodic megawads! Esselfortium and her team of creative energetic mappers has done an amazing job from the unique texture set, the music, the maps & even the tweaked color palette that fits the mood of the whole thing.    100% highly recommended! 5/5

      A pretty straightforward map to run through, packing in tons of enemies in rooms both big and small. Most of the monsters you'll be killing are E1 monsters such as Zombiemen and Imps, so while there isn't much in monster variety, there are plenty of ways to get them to fight each other which I like. It might be better to try and get as many monsters to start attacking at the same time since once you get the Chaingun, not even the groups of Spectres are much of a threat. Overall though, the map is still fun to blast through if you just want to kill tons of monsters in packs.
