About This File

32 maps for vanilla Doom, each one made in one hour over a period of 3 weeks. Bear in mind that all of these maps were designed for pistol start, so be prepared for a rough ride on continuous play.

Aside from being a hard wad this wad is frustrating to play because the author is forcing a certain play style

on you, very limited choice of weapons, for example you don't get the super shotgun until map 14!!. Ammo is

rare especially machine gun ammo, with weak weapons fighting strong monsters in congested narrow areas

I quickly got frustrated. The author will kill you several times after a few maps, again putting you in fight with

hard monsters with a pistol and ammo shortage.

Too small maps are not my thing, things got pretty in congestion in so small rooms, and fun ends too soon.  Got stuck on maps 18 and 19 had to cheat to move on.  After depleting your cells killing the cyberdemon on map 22, you got another cyberdemon on map 23 and a spider mastermind on 25, maps don't look balanced in terms of monsters, ammo and weapon power.

I felt that the levels were very fun but over a bit too soon. So its gonna have to be only three stars.

OK, it took about 30 hours to make this. Being more interested in gameplay than in build time, I carefully would like to suggest you next time spend 30 hours to one single decent map instead of 30 times 1 hour per map. Because, imho, one map with good gameplay is much more worth than 30 very short one-time-play maps with at best boring gameplay. I really tried, but I didn't make it to the end because the gameplay was too yawning. BTW Poor popups are arguably not the right way for making maps more difficult.

Annoying combat with high-HP monsters up until MAP14 where you finally get an adequate weapon, after which I lost my will to play this and ALT+F4'ed after MAP18 and secrets.

Tiny and sometimes really hard maps. Overall pretty enjoyable megawad, play it if you want some nice challenge.

The maps run perfectly under DOS. Up to map05 now and really enjoying it, small levels keep the feeling of progression really nice, much like scyhte.wad. The detail is great for vanilla limits, as well. 5*

OK-ish bunch of vanilla maps. For what i played sa far maps are all short and highly challenging, definitely similar to Scyhte 1.

This feels like bunch of maps made for Congestion whatever. It's pretty boring and looks too basic and we know that author can make cool vanilla wads so basically there's no excuse. Then there are maps with supposedly "cool" ideas like "Run like hell" (28 or 29). No, just no.

32 very small maps. All maps are very small, and fun. My favorite map in here was MAP31. Even the no difficulty settings, LITEBLU4 on blue key doors in some of the early maps, and MAP21 bug will not change my rating. Just save often. I will give it a 3.5 out of 5.

Should be no inescapable pits on 17, did you try pressing use everywhere? Great set of bite-sized maps. I'm happy to have helped with this.

Short but sweet mapset in a similar vein to Demonfear or Scythe, and certainly worth a look if you've got an hour or so to burn. MAP18 however is a festering heap of poorly-planned dogshit, and we all know why.

played this in DWMC. Obsidian loves two things: archviles and gameplay gimmicks, and they're both here. very tiny one hour maps that just do tricks but MAP18 is definitely dogshit. nice Megadeth, Fear Factory, and RATM references too.

32 short, intense, very clever done and good looking maps. [Mappers can learn from this one]. But it is way too hard for a softie player like me (no difficulty setting) - it's a pity.

Just done first playthrough : 66mins of fun. As it is already said, it is something like "Scythe 1: Second season." Contains minor HOM(MAP32) and inescapable pit(MAP17), but it's tolerable IMO. Should be an ideal wad for scoredoom or speedrunning. Looking forward to see his "long-term" maps...

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.

What the actual f*ck is this map. I love having 4 rockets, a shit ton of bullets and like 10 shotgun shells to take out a revenant, and whatever was in that cage. Doesn't look too bad, maybe this negativity is cus im no expert, also rather unskilled at the game?

thank god Underhalls was the map that followed this mod as that level was able to remind me what actually competent level design looks like.

Not that bad, even kind of interesting find the secrets in the map! But yeah, that switches jungle is a awful choice really.
