About This File

Vanilla E3 replacement for doom.wad on marble/wood/caves/hell themes. No custom textures but custom music on each map. The first half takes place underground, after that you'll finally get to see the sky. The difficulty is maybe a bit higher than in original "Inferno". The project was organised by Memfis and he asked a couple of mappers to change some stuff here and there to make the episode more consistent but he tried to not limit the creativity too much so his influence shouldn't be very noticeable.

Layout and architecture pretty impressive and an excellent challenge overall. 4.5/5

Not a bad WAD, but there are dozens of episodes more deserving of all these 5 star ratings (check out DT3, Crusades, or Styx for some great Hell-themed Episodes). Most of these maps are small and could have been whipped up in less than a week (not much detail for most of them). They leave much to be desired in the game play department. The only exceptional map in this bunch is E3M8, with more detail and better game play than the other maps. E3M1-E3M2 and E3M9 are just filler maps. 3/5

Good and easy classic-style mapset, nothing less and nothing more. 4/5

It's ok. The first few levels are very flat and are kinda boring, either due to lack of opposition or turning into a slogfest (here's a room with 10 cacodemons and a shotgun! have fun!). Old school feel, but lacks the zany fun behind Petersen's IWAD maps. Might just be the music, but it feels much slower compared to the IWAD E3's actiony nature. E3M6 is definitely the best level here, with its interconnected layout and use of windows.

Excellent classic map pack that replaces episode 3. Despiste this being Doom 1, I never found it tedious or boring. E3M7 is notable here, being a very complex and inter-connected map but surprisingly not confusing.

Just beat e3m3 - this is great so far, the new music fits and the levels are very solid and clean. The difficulty level is just right. Ammo is sparse, but not so much that you can't defend yourself. I'm enjoying it! - Doomkid

Mixed bag. 31 and 32 are imho plain boring. The others have a lot of fine scenes, good ambiance, and mostly decent gameplay. 36 and 38 partially feel sort-of 'fabricated'. Too many spectres in dark areas is not original anymore. Overall: I consider this mostly as a solid work, but the original is better, especially in terms of adventurous gameplay, so 4/5. BTW E3M8:linedef 1163 has a 3-pixels height rendering problem.

This Inferno replacement was able to bring back the feelings I had when I was eight years old playing Doom for the first time. I found myself low on ammo at times and hiding from monsters that were ready to feast on my soul. The maps are well designed for anyone that wants a nostalgic Doom feeling. +5 for keeping it nostalgic, challenging, fun, and Doom.

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
