About This File

Resurgence is a 32 maps megawad project, an upgrade from the unfinished Surge project. The maps are similar to Speed of Doom, ranging from Scythe/Plutonia-like maps to Speed of Doom to Resurgence-unique. The difficulty is considerably less in places but there are several challenging maps to plow through with the occasional slaughtermaps. (For those who don't like slaughter, avoid Map11,25,27,28,30) Sizes vary greatly (for the sake of variety), ranging from quick paced maps lasting 5 minutes to a long grind that could last even an hour. The project took about a year to complete. Surge was originally a month, and Resurgence took 7 months of non-stop work, 5 months hiatus and then a month of intensive sessions. The Surge maps that has not been heavily modified are Map05,13,14. Although not everyone will like all maps, hopefully this megawad offers several things that can be appreciated and also offers fun and challenges (I am looking at you demo-recording speed- runners...).

One of most uniquely difficult megawads I had pleasure to play. This wad WILL hurt you, hurt you hard and in so many ways, and trust me: you WILL enjoy every damn second of it!

Difficulty goes way overboard for my taste. Slaughter fans will find this to be one of best wads in that genre in years tho.

Too difficult for me even on HNTR, but a great set of maps regardless. MAP31 and it's MIDI go together perfectly, and is now definitely one of my favourite doom levels. Cacoward winner for sure.

I made it to Map 6 and stopped - I'm obviously not this wad's target audience and I never enjoyed this kind of difficulty. I won't rate it lower than 4 stars since I can see it is well made for what it is, since I enjoyed hellish themed visuals in few maps I played and since other seem to love its gameplay.

Maximum awesome - the Unholy Realms of 2014 if not better. Instant caco material.

Already one of my favorite modern megawads. Gameplay is varied (especially for a one man megawad) and ranges from Plutonia on steroids, to evil over the top slaughter, but what each level has in common is that they're extremely fun to play. Atmosphere is great and layouts are effective. If you were a fan of Speed of DooM then this is recommended.

Fantastic effort here, good variety in gameplay and even at times style. The levels range from good to excellent. So an easy 5 from me.

to this day I still think of Resurgence as potentially the hardest megawad. it has a truckload of monsters in just about every map, but that's not why it's difficult as hell, it's the placement of these guys, the complete lack of safe spots in many of the maps, and which enemies are used. never a moment's peace when you load this in. and the difficulty progresses from moderately difficult to harder than any Hell Revealed map. Joshy's a peculiar one, a mapper with a sense of how to make slaughter-style maps dangerous. you see bits and pieces from the original Surge (which is where most of the maps from 1-17 are from) some are combining two short maps for example, but hit MAP18 and things open up. a lot. many of the later maps stand out, the Poison Ivies (one being a guest appearance by the arch-vile lover Darkwave0000), along with the Library which is by far the nastiest library in any Doom game.

it's crazy as fuck and needs mounds of preparation to really beat this feat. this was the hardcore set of its time, and at times you probably won't enjoy it as much as you'd like after the next fifteen or so attempts at one thing in one level. take note, beginnings of levels will kill the most.

This wad has the exact same design philosophy as Slaughter Until Death, and thus it's almost as uninteresting to play. The only major difference between TEU and SUD is that TEU has a lot more enemy spam (rooms choke full of enemies of one type). I think TEU also has a bit more interesting looking rooms, but still not much to look at.

Mostly boring. There are very few interesting rooms and fight scenarios, everything else is just unremarkable. But this wad was released just 3 months after the first mapping tools appeared and at the time this was one of the very best. It's a historical artifact that should be studied, but shouldn't be played!

This was a suffering due to the number of enemies   The level design is not bad, however there are TOO MANY enemies.

This came out in 1996? Wow, it's decent even today, I like the mapping most of all.   Of course, there are areas that are not secret and are very easy to skip accidentally.
