About This File

31 maps created between 1994 and 1998 by the Dooming community of yesteryear, and a map by myself. There's a nice mix of duel maps and all-out FFA maps which seem to have been lost in time, and I thought it was appropriate for Dwango's 20th anniversary to bring them back to the surface! All of these WADs give consent for distribution - check DWANGO20_DOCS for more information. Map01 was created in the spirit of DWANGO and can also be found in DK_DM_2.wad, but this version is better :)

You don't know how thankful I am for a high quality vanilla DM wad.. the duds are few and far between. This is great

Its not really fair to base your judgement of old 90's maps on modern standards. Especially when the entire point of this mapset is to be a compilation of 90's maps. If you don't like 90's deathmatch maps, then guess what, you're not the target audience. Its as simple as that.

Standards have changed in both the snigleplayer and multiplayer elements of the community. Time passed and people got better at playing and making maps and abandoned old shit like DWANGO. If you want an example of a good DM mapset play Lazarus1j or greenwar or something. 1/3rd of this wad is symmetrical arenas and the last 2 maps actually appear to be geared for singleplayer(and definitely would not be good for DM). I guess you could play it with LMS or something? -Marcaek

"Stop living in the 90s." Can the doom community fuck off with this cancer? If we truly "stopped living in the 90's" we'd have stopped playing doom over a decade ago.

Dwango was never better than "average" at its best. Stop living in the 90s. They are not played anymore with the exception of a select few maps for good reason.

This is a must have for any DWANGO Deathmatcher. Some of these maps were a bit ahead of it's time. 5/5

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this is a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
